Best Email Hosting for Unlimited Domains?

I am moving about 50 websites away from a VPS and hosting them instead on a couple of dedicated web servers. The VPS handled everything, database, web, and email. The new servers are geared to serve and host only the websites/databases and lack any type of email hosting functionality.

So I'm looking to point the MX records for all of these sites to a company that specializes in hosting emails. Specifically, the service must include:
  • Support for Unlimited Domains and Email Addresses
  • Some Type of Optional SPAM Protection, per account
  • POP and IMAP Access, Exchange would be nice but not necessary
  • Easy Mailbox and User Configuration

Anyone have some suggestions for a reliable and affordable mail host that can accommodate these needs?

Were you experiencing any performance degradation while hosting your own email? I understand what you want to do but I don't completely understand why.

That said, I'd probably recommend RackSpace's email hosting. All of the option you're looking for however can be done locally as well. You could also use a 3rd party STMP relay service.

Thanks for the quick reply, Kingfish.

This alternative hosting solution will cut hosting costs by 70%, while providing a faster connection and more storage. The VPS costs were getting outrageous (due to web visitor bandwidth usage).

Looking at RackSpace with regards to email, Email Hosting - Business Email Hosted by Rackspace, it seems they price email hosting 'per mailbox'. I'd much rather an easy monthly or yearly fee for an account that allows me to add/remove accounts at will.

I know I can get a small VPS and use it just for emails, but I'd rather go with a reliable company that specializes in email hosting if possible.

I understand what you mean. What is your resource usage now? And by moving email offsite, approximately how much resource usage would it reduce?
