List Building in the IM Niche - How are you doing it?

Spending a little time around the various sections of the WF it's apparent that a lot of people on here have large lists within the Internet Marketing Niche and it's not difficult to understand why it's such a popular and fruitful area.

But what sort of products are you offering to attract such large amounts of people to your lists? How are you making it worthwhile for people to join your list rather than the hundreds if not thousands of others offering the same sort of thing?

I have hundreds of gigabytes worth of content on my hard-drives (check me out ) some of which is my own, some of which I have purchased and some of which I have revamped and rewritten etc... But I am not really doing nothing with it - and I do worry that I lack any really focus with the things I am doing and trying to achieve.

I am really keen to learn more about this as I fully appreciate the benefits of having a responsive email list, and I have spent the best part of 2 months now reading every list building and email marketing book I can find. But I am really struggling to see why some people are bringing in thousands of individuals in only a few months offering from what I can tell the same sort of stuff as everyone else.

You can give that away, or sell it, clearly.

Depending on the exact rights you've purchased, in each case, it wouldn't be a great surprise if you can't sell any of those, or give them away.

With the copyright-owner's permission, in each case, presumably? Again, unless it was something like PLR which was sold for the specific purpose of doing that (and even then, whether you can sell it/give it away may vary according to the terms of sale when you bought it), you'd need to be very careful about that: the way you describe it does make it sound very much like "derivative works", doesn't it? In general, it's clearly not ok simply to buy something, revamp/re-write it and then give it away or resell it, you'll appreciate?

Sorry not be able to answer the more substantive part of your question, but I prefer to stay well away from IM niches, myself, partly as they seem fantastically competitive and difficult, to me. But possibly on the general subject of list-building, this thread will help you? http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6123982

Happy with all of that. Sorry I should have made it clearer so that I don't just look like a ripoff merchant :p I meant content that I can physically use i.e. I'm the copyright holder, have full PLR, or permissions to reuse / adapt as necessary.

This is what happen to me years ago. overloaded with information. so many offers, so many thread, and I don't know where to start. Building a list is not my specialty, but common sense tell me that the main problem of building a great list is sales copy and traffic. If you have splurge a lot of cash for that premium ebook and software, I am sure you don't have problem buying a paid traffic. So, I think you should focus on how to make a good sales copy.

What do people really want in the IM niche? Ask your self that? The obviously answer is MONEY, people who invest in IM are looking at ways to make money simple and fast. The best way to give them that is making a product that is a simple step-by-step guide that will help them make money. Not every one will follow it, but the few that will should be able to make some type of money thats ultimately what you need to do. Traffic, Social Media, what ever it may be it must be a guide to help make money.

maybe you can get some idea from the internet marketing products on clickbank... what kind of products are selling the best... what kind of landing pages work the best etc.

The IM niche is one of the best niches to work with when it comes to Email Marketing. You could either provide an incentive for the sign up or you could provide a lot of value up front before requesting a sign up (you will have a lower opt in rate with this but a more responsive list).

You create products based on systems / methods / strategies you know work and then you sell them and in the process build a list. It's a competitive niche though so be warned.

I don't doubt that for a second mate, everything I do is with my eyes wide open - or at least that's what I like to tell myself

I think the biggest thing that I am struggling to get my head around is that, generally speaking (and I'm talking big paint brush strokes here) every second or third IM is selling the same if not very similar products, systems and solutions - or giving away the same products, reports, systems etc... to build their list.

Like I said before I have read A LOT about list building etc... in recent months and for the most part the authors / marketers are saying the same stuff. But it's obvious that some are doing much better than others selling the same products and using the same techniques. Does this basically just boil down to luck and how much money the individual is throwing at it in terms of marketing?

its how you market yourself and your products and information

the fact is 98% of people out there don't have any idea what they are doing when it comes to building lists because they get fed bad information

if you really do know your stuff about your niche then you will easily stand out from 99.9% of other people

traffic is actually the easiest part of it all

having a clear cut plan on what to do with the traffic, how to convert the traffic and where to send them is a whole different story but this is where experience comes in

Thank you for all the feedback everyone. I have invested a little money in setting up a JV giveaway site specifically for the IM niche and will be hosting the first event this coming Monday-Friday.

I've posted it in the JV events section of the boards, however still looking for contributors. If you are interested the link is in my signature and I'm available on PM to answer any questions.
