I am looking over some domains for sale and noticed one domain that was registered in 2012 but has a Page Rank of 6. Anyone know how this is possible? It does have 41 indexed pages

I am into domains, but not into SEO, development, PR, backlinking....

Anyway, I would say that domain has good traffic and many quality backlinks from high PR domains, probably higher than 6.

Was its FIRST registration in 2012? Or only the most recent one? It could have been expired once before and someone else bought it up, then let it go again.

Getting to a PR6 in under a year isn't impossible if you have quality backlinks coming in. You should be able to figure out where those were coming from.

It's possible for a 1 year old site to achieve a Page Rank of 6 if the site has a ton of QUALITY manual backlinks pointing to it as well as the site has or had high quality unique content on it.

Page rank (PR) is only related to links and their PR. It has no relationship with page content.

I once created a website with about 100 pages of unique content.

I didn't build any links to it and within 3-4 weeks it had a PR of 3.

    Don't ask me how.

It must have got some links from some other high PR website(s), most probably from their main page itself !

Be careful when purchasing PR domains because some are faked. They do a redirect from the new domain to a PR domain they already own, which leads to the search engine thinking the original site has some PR. As soon as you buy it, they will remove the redirect leaving you with PR0 site. I actually use ScrapeBox with an addon to check any domains.

Why wouldn't it be possible? In early 2011 I had several new domains whose home pages got to PR-5 by about April/May (it did surprise me, at the time, but for a little while the forum seemed to be full of people reporting the same thing), and a couple of them got to PR-6 a few months later. And you wouldn't believe how little "conscious SEO" I do.

It's not of great relevance to anything much (and especially not to SERP's positions), these days. I don't often bother to check my own page ranks, now.
