What to do with this domain I just bought?

Hi all

I just bought a dropped domain in the wine niche - let's call it italianwinelist.com.
It's 11 years old, has 1.6k backlinks, PR1, no Alexa rank. There are 500 exact match searches per month and about 133K searches for the first two words of the domain name. There seem to be plenty of monetisation options if the site had good rank and content.

My question is - what should I do with this domain? Try to flip it? Bear in mind that I have no experience in domain flipping or blogging but I can do basic technical stuff quite easily.

TIA

If I were you, I would put up a site and some content. And look around for a monetization option. But, that's the last piece of the puzzle. Develop a decent site and the money or monetization options will find you.

Thanks for the reply. What qualifies as a decent site? Good content? Lots of content? Backlinks? I just don't know much about this niche - I bought the domain becasue it looked like a good buy.

It comes down to a lot of content, a lot of good content. Along with backlinks and traffic.

Get inspiration from couple of articles in the niche and write articles yourself, or outsource it. Add consistent and regular content.

Exact match domain names don't carry much weight in Google's eyes anymore. But, since it's an aged domain, it may still have some authority.

I would put up a Wordpress blog with a squeeze page incorporated into the theme. Either write your own content, or outsource it. Just don't use junk PLR or scrape content. I'd recommend Article Builder if you want fast, unique content based on your specific topic. If you want keyword targeted content, just write articles yourself or hire a writer.

Start selling wine, bro. It's the only reasonable option. You just bought yourself a job in the wine industry.

Don't sample your wares too much, lest you become an alcoholic.

When you're all set up, send me a PM and I'll buy a gift basket from you.

The wine selling business is not a fun one to be in. Different states have different laws on the distribution. Just getting stuff set-up could cost a fortune. Here is the first article I found on it: Selling Wine Online: What You Need to Know

Just found an affiliate program that deals specifically with the type of wine in my actual domain name! Only 15% but it's a start.

        Other, non-affiliate ideas welcome!

Thanks for the reply Kurt. I know what a squeeze page is but what could I offer? I suppose a free guide on what wine to drink wtih what meal or something like that? I presume your thinking here is to build a list?

@verial - Maybe that's the way to go. But I'm not Stateside so a physical biz won't work for me in this niche. Anyone know any good wine dropshippers or affilliate programs? (how come the thanks button doesn't show up for you? - Oh, now it does!)
