Why am I still getting comments?

I've got wordpress and installed the facebook comment thing. I can't see my regular wordpress commenting box, and I'm pretty sure I've disabled it, but I'm still getting comments. (Granted, they're spam.)

Is it simply because they are automated spam bots going straight to a wordpress comment url or what? Is there any way to shut this off?

Also, I don't have any comments sense I installed the SEO facebook comment plugin. Do I get notified of comments, and can I monitor them?

    There are some more strict comment plugins you can install, for higher security.

    or you can delete them daily, but that would take more time .

      You can use Akismet for the default spam filter, find Akismet Comment Spam Fighter for more detailed information. I've been using it for a year and its been reduce spamming rate to almost 99 percent. I had 5 - 6 spam comment a week and akismet take care of it for me.

    You can use a hash based WP plugin for comment filters. Do a search on wordpress.org These are more effective than Akismet.
