Selling video content online

So I want to start writing some ebooks for my site. I run a video tutorial site and I want to expand my reach by getting into ebooks but obviously I prefer video content. So with that said is there a way to I can make a DVD style video series and sell it online? I don't want to have physical media being shipped out, but have a way where they can download it. I'm not sure if something like that is good considering I may have hours of HD video content that they would download.

Does ejunkie or any place like that cater to video content like this? I think it would be easier for me to create video products considering I already do it already. I have experience writing ebooks but I know these ebooks would be much different in structure and overall look and feel than the mostly text ebooks I had before.

What would you recommend is the best route? I'd prefer a place where I can add my files to and they have their own system set up for this kind of stuff. Thanks!

    Hi there,

I've created and paid for video content on a membership site, where you could watch the content within the site and / or download it in a .zip file.

I've also seen 2 membership levels within the site, one for 'watchers only' and a slight bump i price to download.

    Hope that helps!

I've had a number of membership sites that have had literally thousands of mp3 and video downloads.

The best solution I can recommend is to have a membership site and then use Amazon S3 to host all of those files for you.

Well right now I may be coming out with a few every few months so that's why I'm not keen on having a membership site. I want a place where I can sell this in multiple places and maybe even have an affiliate program for it.

On that note, do you all recommend a digital downloads plugin for wordpress? My VA is currently building a store for me using Market Press but it might be a while before it's up and running. Thoughts? Thanks!

It doesn't matter where you want the files or how you want to setup the website.

Use Amazon S3 to host all the files.

Why Amazon S3? I've heard a few people recommend it around here and honestly I don't know much about it. I've been reading a little about it on Amazon but not sure why it's better? Thanks

It's way more secure than video sharing sites, you have unlimited storage, and it's very, very cheap.

I used to use EZS3 to create the viewers for my content, it never failed, buffered or froze. Not sure if there's a better option for a player now but Amazon S3 is the professional choice.

Well right now I have most of my content on Youtube but it's all free. I'd probably upload my "premium" content on S3. Is there anything with S3 that will allow me to sell my video? Ideally I'd prefer to stream the video after they've paid for it (not a recurring membership).

Nope. Membership software to sell the product (doesn't have to be recurring, just keeps your content secure), S3 to stream the video.

You'll need to research the membership sites, and the right video player for your purposes. It's been a while since I've done that kind of work and am probably out of the loop by now.

What WillR said. You can set up multiple memberships / products within one site; Nanacast almost certainly does that, not sure about others.

And yes, host everything with Amazon S3 and upload .zip files for the longer videos.

Thanks, I'll sign up with Amazon S3 and see how it all works.
