    Add facebook and google plus widgets on the sidebar first. You can add those using text widget. Also, add a "featured" youtube video on the sidebar, also trough a text widget.

    Then you can install plugins to display the following widgets:
    * recent posts
    * most popular
    * recent comments
    * top commenters
    Signature

    Automatically add affiliate links in your website content with Auto Affiliate Links

          Well it depends on what you are doing with your website. I personally use a lot of plugins on all my sites. I guess the main ones are all in one seo (for seo), tweet and like (for sharing), and jetpack (for stats on your site).
          Hope this helps a little. If you need more support feel free to pm me.

            Thanks for the info on what you use.

            I have the SEO's but mainly asking for plugins for widgets that improve the look of a site instead of a half empty sidebar. these can be anything such as list building plugins, even gimmicky ones that get users to interact or do something, very fancy social plugins, etc.... things like this

              Have you tried WooThemes? Their themes come with some great widget options: Blog Author Info (including room for a photo); embed video; Flickr; subscribe/connect; Twitter stream; tabs (a box that contains latest/most popular posts/recent comments/tags); feedback; Adspace.

              Any of those can be inserted into sidebars or their widgetised footers. Real easy to use. And that's alongside the standard, useful WP widgets like Text.

              I also like the Acurax social widget. Easy to use, works well.
