Should I Buy This Domain Name?

Just found a domain name on godaddy auctions that has all my keywords and is 3 years old for $70. The only thing is it has one dash in it (-).

Should i keep shopping or grab this one?

It's hard to comment, without knowing the name (which I appreciate you don't want to post).

    My instincts are "against".

It sounds very long, and a bit messy and complicated, with three words, two run together and third separated by a hyphen? I don't mind hyphens, but I'd prefer three words equally separated by two hyphens.

I don't really like domain-names with three keywords in them, anyway. I'm not at all clear that they have great SEO advantages.

The age is probably a plus, admittedly. But not overwhelmingly. (You'd need to check its history carefully, of course!).

Also, you'd still have the problem that someone else owns the unhyphenated .com version?

$70 also sounds too much for this (says she, with no idea what it is! ).

I say "no", but I'm only guessing.

It will be better if you post the domain name here so that others can voice an opinion. :p

You can't seriously expect him to do this?! If it does happen to be a really good one, someone will buy it 30 seconds later!

I just found an exact match domain for 27,000 searches a month on google tools, no hyphens, just 3 words that make sense together. Should i shop for an aged or go for the EMD?

Might be better? It's really difficult to say, in abstract!

and the EMD i just found would be brand-able. All the other near match domains are already taken.

Google does not give weight to exact match domains any longer, so buying it just because there are keywords in it doesn't make sense. Why not go with a brand new .com brandable domain for 10 bucks? You will not get any rise in the serps simply because it is an exact match domain. Used to, but not any more.

I agree the keyword in the domain might still help a tad but not enough to worry over.
As far as the "-"... Don't do it. Two of my domains that are over 10 years old have a "-" in them, every time I look at those sites the thought runs thru my head "man I wish that "-" wasn't in the domain. It has bugged my for years but I'm stuck with them... Don't do it!!!

I try to avoid getting domains with hyphens(-) in them if possible. Is this a domain you MUST have? Maybe there's a hyphenless alternative.

Also GoDaddy might not be the only place to get the domain, you might be able to register it for cheaper elsewhere.
