I'm In The IM Niche...For God's Sake, Don't Ask Me Questions On How To Stop Your Dog From Farting!

Hey Guys

I have always prided myself at offering great customer support.
I always try my best to answer all support tickets.

However, there are a few morons (sorry, I did not find a better word!) who simply don't get it.

They ask questions completely unrelated to the topic. I tolerate them a few times, but they never seem to stop. I am into Internet Marketing niche, but they want me to answer questions on how to stop their dog from farting! (I am not kidding. I actually got that as a support question)

I often purposely delay their replies for 7-10 days, but they reply back thanking me...and at the same time asking another question!

I find myself being dragged into an unending loop answering questions that I don't need to answer. Maybe i should simply start deleting their tickets?

I am sure, we all have our share of morons. So how do you guys handle this?

Any tips, suggestions?

-Abhi

    Abhi,

Since you know the answer, could you please tell me how to stop my dog from farting? I mean it is a serious issue, the dude bathes us in his own brand of perfume and it makes my eyes water. What's your site? If you post the answer here, it will save you a support ticket...

Thank you the two previous posters for a good giggle, still giggling away here, very funny...

On a more serious note, Abhi, could it be some wally teenager having some fun with you do you think? You know like kids used to do, pick a number out of the phone book and make a prank call, just a thought I had when reading your post and before spitting my coffee all over my screen thanks to the other two posters.. still giggling.

              LOL

Yep that is me with Donny that particular one was taken in 2005 in London, he was about to present me and 5 others with some awards (this is with Melaleuca) but before that we all got to go meet him in his hotel room (the living room area before anyone gets ideas LOL) and have a nice chit chat, it was at the time when he had just become a Grandad and he proudly showed us pictures of his new grandson on his laptop. In that photo taken in the room I tried to do a "bunny ears" thing with my fingers (I have got a few others photos from other times with him so wanted a daft one) but because his is taller than me I had to ask him to hunch down a bit but did not tell him why, he looked at me very strangely then cottoned on at the last second and bunney eared me too, darn it!!

You wanted all that extra info right LOL

Sorry for hijacking the thread, Steven started it...

What type support system are you using? Does it require registration?

Sounds like prank entries. If you are answering them, they probably will not stop sending them. Ignore them and your problem may go away. I don't imagine a legitimate IM customer would ask those types of questions.

BTW Abhi...would you happen to know anything about getting rid of warts on a frog?

    hey guys

The question about farting dogs was a real extreme one. Even i had a great laugh when i received it!

For those who want to know what answer i gave this guy, I asked them to check this great site, that probably they would have never heard of! It's called Google...

how to stop dog farts - Google Search

    But that's not the point.

The thing that bugs are even IM related questions that are beyond the scope of what my helpdesk stands for. Like giving them a tutorial on HTML or Adwords or Keyword Research.

My fuse doesn't blow off when people ask me the As or Bs about these things. It is when they start asking me how to write HTML code that looks exactly the same in IE as well as Firefox. (Even I don't know the answer to it!)

They should know that rather than submit a support ticket, they can easily do a Google search and get the answer.

I guess i need to be stern enough and start ignoring these questions

Maybe you should send them a dog training guide with your affiliate link.

If the number of IM related questions is so high that it's bugging you, there must be some great research material in there. You should use it.

On the other hand, if it's only the odd query that's beyond your helpdesk's scope, what's the big deal?

Mix plain yogurt with his/her dog food 1-2 times per week. The bacteria in yogurt is excellent for the digestive system of dogs.

    My top ten list for..

"How do I stop my dog from farting?"

    # 10. Stop feeding it that cheap, frozen pizza from the dinner table.

    # 9. Go to PetsSmart and look for "Beno" for Fido

    # 8. How the hell should I know? What, I look like a Veteranarian to you?

    # 7. Feed him lots of bubble gum

    # 6. Teach it to walk backwards until it bumps into a fire hydrant.

    # 5. Stop feeding the poor dog canned chili already.

    # 4. Have your neighbor watch him for a few days. You know, the annoying one that keeps borrowing lawn tools but never returns them?

(Might not keep the dog from farting, but there's a damn good chance you can get your tools back)

    # 3. Two words: Butt plug.

    # 2. I can help you with problems about your blog. Not problems with your "dog".

    And the number one answer..

Are you sure you meant to call ME? I'm a taxidermist.

Abhi - Do you know how to get coffee out of my keyboard?!!

Sorry - this is a serious topic and deserves a serious answer.

Oh! Goodness! Sorry! - I'm still sputtering over some of these posts!

OK - wait - OK - I hate to agree that you should ignore help desk requests. Even when they're off topic. But I guess it gets to the point when you must in order to answer the folks that really need help with a serious issue.

I get emails at times from people asking how to register a domain or upload a web page. They're not clients.......and they're not asking for a quote on a project. Granted, these types of questions aren't necessarily off-topic for me. I always answer these inquiries because these same folks sometimes come back and order simply because they determine that I'm friendly and helpful. I'm not sure what I'd do if someone wrote and asked how to stop their dog from farting!

But ignoring those types of emails may be your only recourse if it gets to the point that you can't help legitimate requests.

Does remind me of the foolish phone calls - back in the day - like "Is your refrigerator running?"

Barbara...replace your keyboard, and be careful not to spill it again

Yeah, once or twice is kind of. But sooner or later we need to say enough is enough. Sooner the better.

I guess at the end of the day, we all need to justify how we spent our time.

Like many have said, this has to be a prankster.. I mean seriously, what persona that whats to learn more from you would be asking that if your nothing to do with that niche ??

Think logical, thats like answering one of those emails that says you have $8,000,0000,000 in a US bank account lol

simply reply once, state you do not know the answer and you will no longer be answering their emails .

Can you not block their email address ??
