So I have created a new member site on my main domain although I have another domain which is especially for my product.

I am using my main domain because I will eventually have many products on one website. It's ok to do it this way right?

I was planning to have a redirect from my specific domain to a sales page on my main domain where the product is hosted.

I have my sales page created on main domain so will redirect specific domain to this page, although would split testing still work?

edit - I mean url forwarding

Sounds like you're complicating things for yourself.

Some people get annoyed by redirects, I would keep it more simple and sell what you are selling right in front of them, instead of stabbing it in their back on the way out.

I said redirect - I actually meant url forwarding.

It will be in front of them betterwtveter -
Someone types in url - url forwards to a different address = it's in front of them?

    Therealdudeman - can you explain?

Host the product on a payment processor like e-junkie/jvzoo.
Host the sales page for the product on the domain that is intended for the product.
Produce content that periodically links to the sales page from your main website.
      Forget re-directs/forwarding/exit scripts/shady shit
Recruit affiliates to help distribution of your product.

I think it's fine. Maybe just have a message on your specific domain that you'll be redirecting them to another site, so they know what's going on.

  • If you are thinking about what your visitors will think, then it really depends on which niche you are in.

I still cannot get my head around this

The reason I was thinking of using a url forwarding, is because I am using dap and want to host more than one product, which would have to be done on one domain.

I am also using optimize press.

Basically I have my personal training website and was going to host my fat loss product on another url especially for that product.

Then it seemed like it would be best to have everything hosted on one domain because if I create more versions, upsells, cross sells etc - it would not work across domains (Maybe it does? I am new to this and kinda frustrated because I know there is so much to learn still)

So I moved my site to a sub folder on my personal training website.
Now I could use a link from this website although there is no ring to the name. Basically it will be a lot easier to remember the name for a specific website for a specific product.

What are the main reasons not to use url forwarding? What makes it shady?

Ahh - Just had another thought - google advertising does not like forwarding right?

Maybe I am making this complicated - My head is going to explode, maybe implode!

Presell in that case. You will lose visitors though.
