Does anyone know of a free screeen capture software like Jing,
but that takes video for longer than 5 minutes at a time?

  Yepp, I have that and ISHOWU PRO. Unfortunately for the OP, there aren't many quality choices for free. If she has an iMac 10.6.8 or newer, then QuickTime comes with a build in screen capture feature.

Hm.. just thought of something else that MIGHT work (no guarantees)

You could try ManyCam free virtual webcam effects software

Set the refresh rate to 0 (fastest) and record the screen that way.

I can record a video showing you how to do it with ManyCam if you want, just let me know!

EDIT:

Wait, no.. it only lets you record from webcam with ManyCam - not from the desktop source input.

I would go with: Screencast-O-Matic - Free online screen recorder for instant screen capture video sharing.

Even the pro version is only $15/Year. It's pretty much a steal.

Screenr.com has some free capture software available. Of course there is always camtasia but it isn't free. Be forewarned though, you get what you pay for and some of that free software isn't the best, as others have said. But hey, give them it a try and see if it works for you. Worse comes to worse you spend a little money.

I was looking for a free screen recorder for a MAC this week and learned that QuickTime actually has a screen recorder function in it for FREE. I tested it out and it works. Works great for me obviously since I use KeyNote, iMovie and Motion.

I don't know how to make it record the desktop on win or mac, but if I can do it on my OpenSUSE Linux system then I'd bet it's possible on other systems too.

  for unlimited recording its $15/year. I am using it from last 6 months

I've tried them all and screencast-o-matic blew me away in terms of easy to use, editing featuers (for the Pro version) and the audio quality.

It's as good as Camtasia in the output, what no free tool delivered. Mainly the audio is crap in the produced videos using free tools and you have to record in Audacity and mix them together, but not with this one here.

And it cost 15 bucks for a full year, ridiculously cheap IMO. The free version has no editing tools or only few.

Then there are 2 other tools you can look at

VideoPad, it records and also edit videos, a bit similar to Camtasia too.
Activepresenter, similar tool

Both have free versions or trials. I use VideoPad to edit my videos as it's better than Movie Maker live.

Is anyone here know about KAP Screen Recorder?. I tried last month and very recommend for osx (mac) users.

If you ever use quicktime screen recorder, KAP Screen Recorder more lighter than quicktime and it can automatic convert (save as) to mp4.

btw, it's 100% free!.

If you are ok with using torrents, I suggest Camtasia as there are a handful of working versions out there you can get for free.

I myself first got started with a free torrent version of Camtasia, then once I started making a bit of money I opted for the paid version (for the support feature etc) and I also don't mind spending money, support quality products.
