Best Hosting for High Volumes of Traffic?

Hi Warriors,

I already have a handful of shared hosting accounts, mostly with HG. But, I'm in the process of scaling up and my shared hosting accounts cannot handle the traffic that I'm currently getting. I believe it's crashing the servers or freezing them. (I check my sites periodically during the day and it's the server error page) and it only happens when I have 100's - 1000's of UV's on my sites at the same time.

So is there some higher quality hosting that someone can recommend that can handle high volumes of traffic?

Will VPS hosting be better even though it's still considered shared hosting, or do I need to go the dedicated server route?

I'll take any advice, thanks in advance.

I had very bad experienced with VPS that was crashing much more than my shared hosting. I have moved back to Hostgator shared hosting.

Have you contacted hostgator about your site downtime? They guarantee 99.9% Uptime Guarantee on their shared server.

But if ever you need to move i would say go straight to Dedicated servers. I dont think VPS is much more reliable then shared hosting.

Thanks for the quick response, freotech.

I haven't talked to HG about it yet because I know they'll try to talk me into a dedicated server and I'm really not trying to go that route unless it's my only choice.

I think a dedicated server will be the best option for you if you are expecting huge amount of traffic.

Bluehost also provides dedicated servers and I currently have one for almost a year through them.

In the shared hosting, there is a good chance that you are being hosted on a cramped server with many other users so that's why your websites have issues.

Bluehost is terrible IMHO...I've had sites "down for maintenance" and whenever I try to update them, it's not instantaneously, unlike Media Temple. I would check them out...I've been with them (main hosting site) for nearly seven years. Zero issues.

Choose dedicated servers or VPS hosting, if you are able to generate at least 100,000 unique visitors monthly. Hostgator is still best choice.

I'd go for dedicated server as well if I were you! There aren;t much differences between shared hosting and VPS!

I recommend HostGator or hawkhost because uptimenya tall and strong for high traffic.
hostgatornya price for shared hosting bargain if hawkhost using bandwidth. jadil ore either use hostgator.

Dedicated, hostgator - don't build your business on some poor quality servers, the faster your site loads the better it perfoms in both SERPS and conversions

    Good luck

Go dedicated for sure, but Hostgator dedicated may not be your best choice.

You should go over to Web Hosting Talk, they have a special offer section, and a whole section on dedicated hosting deals, Dedicated Hosting Offers - Web Hosting Talk

If you are not used to dedicated, be sure to get a managed package, with a weekly backup. It puts the prices up, but gives you a helping hand in the server environment.

I find that the more intense the product is, the less tutorials there are on the net.

    Recommends are your friend here.

With 100's - 1000's concurrent visitors your shared hosting days are over. Either a powerful well configured VPS or a dedicated server are your best options.

Granted that I don't get much traffic, but still have been totally happy with bluehost.com so far except in case of malware attacks which is when I prefer hostgator.

You can go for dedicated servers for huge traffic needs.

    Thanks everyone for your responses.

I'm going with Media Temple. They seem to have exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm glad you found a home for your sites, but I would like to add that as a web hosting provider some of you here don't know what you are talking about when you say 'vps is just like shared hosting'... etc... A properly configured virtual private server with the correct amount of resources would be 100 times better than any shared provider for high volume sites.

mediatemple.net is a host that seems to do much better with growing businesses.

i use togglebox.com. they are super scale-able, but they are less managed than HG servers. sorta hybrid managed. u may need to find a server guy on odesk or something for some tasks, but you get a lot more server for your money.
