Have No Clue What General Discussion Means Anymore

A thread that was started here in November of last year was just moved to
Mind Warriors.

Here it was.
[Link Removed By Moderator]

It seems that any post that has any kind of tips to do anything, doesn't even
matter what it is, gets moved there.

So please, for the love of all that is holy, what does general discussion mean?

Because it seems that it no longer means ways to make money online
because all those posts are being moved now.

From what I see, the only posts being allowed to stay here anymore are

1. Threads asking questions or opinions.
2. Rants about something that somebody did.

Everything else appears to simply not belong here anymore.

"Tips on how to make money doing"

article marketing
blogging
CPA
whatever

Doesn't matter. You won't find any "tips" threads here any longer.

So what's general discussion?

Is it 1 and 2 above as I stated?

If you read the description under the forum title, it says...

"Where We Talk About Making Money"

Obviously, this isn't true anymore.

So a clarification would be nice.

This is not a rant. I'm just confused and I can't follow the rules if I don't
know what the rules are.

Thanks.

It seems that there is an effort to not have old threads keep bumping up on the first page of the main forum.

I guess they moved it to Mind Warriors for those who wanted to keep that discussion going. It's slightly better than having the thread locked - which I've seen a lot of recently as well.

Ron it's not just that. Every thread I've posted in the last 2 months that
has been any kind of "tips" to make money has been moved there, some
      within 5 minutes of posting.

Steven, your posts are so mind blowing that they belong in the mind forum. Either that or the mods think you're mental for posting so much good stuff.

Let's just start posting all money making advice in the mind forum and eventually it will get moved to the general discussion.

Well there you go. This is obviously another liberal government attempt to take over the control of the banking system, and weakening the military by reducing the power of the general posts here. Manipulating the mind of warriors is only the beginning.
Considering your rich post count, a 60% transfer of money making is only in keeping with the new taxi code.

General Discussion is for discussing hamster mating rituals, flamenco dancing, chainsaw juggling, hair transplants, the labels on food cans, midget bowling, stupid pet tricks, space travel, chicken sexing, bad movies, recipes for gumbo, pole dancing, and gay rights for marsupials. Anything else should be moved to avoid distracting us.

Well, you know how you pointed out about every time you created a new
Clickbank account your sales started again.

I am quite sure that if you start any kind of thread with "tips" on doing
something, whatever it is, that will make you money, it will be moved and
          I don't know why. I don't know what's changed, but something has.

I'm just trying to get a handle on it so I simply post to the appropriate
          forum from now on.

In other words, if we're no longer to post...

          on that. That's all.

Its suppose to be "Where We Talk About Making Money"

and Mind Warriors is supose to be "self-improvement"

Pretty self-explanitory for those who read English. Of course some times new rules/procedures a started w/out informing the members.

As far as bumping old topics, Im sure a bump is better (even encouraged by most members) than starting a new thread on the same topic.

Well, that's what I thought but I guess I'm just dumber than a stump Garrie
because I obviously don't get it. Posts that were made 2 years ago to GD
that remained are now moved in seconds. So something has changed and the

why in the world would tips be moved to the mind forum? I am as bewildered as you are...

I also don't really get the locking of threads. Most of the ones I see locked have the blatant appearance of being locked soley for the sake of preventing any desenting opinions (even when the discussion isn't 'heated').

I really don't understand the 'behind the scenes' changes that have been going on...

I'm thinking that an Admin or Mod didn't feel the "tips" were appropriate for the main forum.

Edit: I'm sure it's probably that your tips are considered so valuable that the main forum is not worthy.

Well, that's obvious, but why? If we don't know what's not allowed here
anymore, we're just going to keep making the same stupid mistakes day
        after day.

Having said that, from now on if I have any tips to share, I'll just post them
over there because I've seen enough to convince me that that's where they
        are supposed to go.

Which brings up another can of worms.

If we see a thread in general discussion that is some kind of tips, do we
report it as one to be moved? After all, we still have member mod status
to report posts, such as spam or if an Adsense or PPC post is on general
discussion. I understand those being moved, but the generic tips threads I
just don't get and that's why I'm puzzled.

I seriously doubt that's it as Ken Preuss thread, that was in GD for 6 months,

Jason, there seems to be a gray area between making money and self
      improvement.

A tip to do XYZ in order to make money can be seen as self improvement
if the tip itself makes you better at something, such as how to write a
better article, or how to make a better landing page.

What I don't get is why we seem to be leaning towards the one side
rather than the other. It just seems that if you make any post that
      essentially says...

      "Do XYZ to make money"

      it gets moved.

I guess the real question is...

    Who really cares???

I've had threads moved and it bothered me a bit...but, I could really care less now. I gave up trying to figure out why things were done and just started accepting that they were done.

So, If I make a thread with some good stuff in it and it gets moved, who is really losing out? Not me, because I was going to post it no matter where mods or admins decide to move it.

At the end of the day, I was going to post it regardless so, what part of the board it ends up on -- doesn't make much difference to me.

Now, please feel free to move this thread to the Adsense and PPC forum

I agree, too - and why care?

I'd say it's mainly to stop the constant bumping of old threads that has been happening. A new member bumps a 6 months old thread with a one liner and then other members start answering not realizing it's old.

Threads like that would add more substance to the Mind Forum (which has degenerated a bit recently in topics) and also put useful threads where they could be read but not be as likely to be bumped.

Just my theory - but I don't see why it would be a problem for anyone.

We'll keep her in our best wishes. Hope she gets well soon.

    Steven,

Have you considered that your posts could be so
long and detailed that they are not conducive to
    general discussion?

Do you remember Allen's comments about some
posts being much more suited to being posted on
    a blog?

Has it occured to you that a list of tips, written in
the format of an article, may be better submitted
    to the article forum?

Have you considered the possibility of starting your
own forum where you could establish rules that fit
your needs rather than having to fit into this forums
    management?

Just a few things you might wish to think about.

      John

John, you make some excellent points. However, because I do want to
continue to contribute to this forum, in order to do that, I do in a sense
have to conform to the forum's management. Thus, I need to know what
is and isn't appropriate for each section of the forum.

I would tend to agree that maybe post length is an issue, but Ken's thread
wasn't very long at all and yet that was just moved in spite of the fact
that it was in general discussion for over 6 months. In that case, yes,
maybe the bumping of it is the issue.

In either case, I'm just going to go with my gut and post where I feel
is appropriate, and like Jeremy says (man, you are so wise) if it gets
moved, it gets moved. Otherwise, I end up driving myself nuts trying to
      understand why.

Having said that, I can't believe THIS thread is still here.

A good thing to have would be more forums regarding different subjects:

    -email marketing and auto-responders
    - seo strategy and tactics
    - social media
    ...

The problem with the main marketing forum is that it has grown too big. There's just too much stuff going on here. Too overwhelming to follow.

Simon, it has to do with almost every post I have made here for the last 2
months (with few exceptions) have been moved there.

And then when I saw a 6 month old thread moved there (Ken's) that's when
I started thinking maybe something has changed and I'm just trying to
      understand the rules.

That's all I'm trying to do is play by the rules. There is no agenda, no dark
motives. I just want to go to the correct forum to begin with whenever I
      make a post.

As it is, I don't start that many threads here anymore so when I do, I
just want to put them in the right place.

      Okay?

Despite problems people may have with Steven, it's hard to argue that his is not a great marketer ..... he's very successful actually. He's one of the "go-to" guys if you have a question about how to do article marketing.

I suggest you don't speak out of your arse if you don't know what you're talking about and you're trying to sound "cool", of which you failed at miserably.

        Now back on topic.
IF there have been procedural changes as to where certain types of posts are to be posted, then I wish the main admins/mods would come and make a post describing all the details so the forum members are in the know from the get-go and not be so confused about the basics.

Here's what I've noticed in looking at threads that were moved....

When a question is asked in the subject line that encourages input and experiences of others and is likely to lead to open discussion, it stays in the main forum section.

When a thread is started that is more "lecture" type, telling people how to do something or expounding on how they should view something....it's often moved. Those threads most often lead to replies that are "great post", etc rather than discussion.

That's an indication to me of what is suitable for the main section. As for this particular thread, the post mentioned is 5 months old and has been bumped repeatedly for no good reason. Also noticed that one of Steven's new threads was moved yesterday, too - is that coincidence?

Why do people care when their threads are moved? Because the threads don't get as much attention in other sections. I understand that - but the threads are available to anyone interested in reading them and can be found with a forum search no matter what section they are in. Moving a thread doesn't make it less important - or make the poster less important.

A thread like this is useless because it always degenerates into someone making stupid comments about the poster and others jumping to his defense. Posting and drinking don't mix, do they?

Re. the topic; I think that Kay and Grant may be onto something. Although I'm still mystified why Steven's thread last week concerning testimonials was moved to the Mind Warriors forum.

While I can't argue that these threads always degenerate into what this
thread has, I don't think it's useless to try to understand why things are
            done.

As you can see, I'm not the only one who is confused by where posts end
            up.

If I don't know where to post something, how can I post it in the right
            place?

Now I know you're probably thinking, what does it matter? Where it ends
            up, it ends up.

But since I no longer get notifications from the forum when posts are
moved, if I'm looking to see what input a thread has gotten and it isn't
where I expected it to be, I now have to go hunting for it.

Not the end of the world? No, I guess not. I guess I could just navigate
to my profile and look through my "Subscribed Threads" area, but having
subscribed to several thousand, it's possible that this could take some
            time.

Bottom line...I don't think it's a crime to simply want to know what is
considered general discussion and what's considered something else.

Your observation about what has been moved and what remains here
makes a lot of sense, and if that is the criteria, great. That's what I'll go
by until another change is made.

Like I said, this wasn't a rant and I'm not upset, not even with the member
who called me pathetic. I honestly don't care what anybody thinks of me
anymore. I have more important things to concern myself with. I just
want to know where to post any tips that I want to share with the
            members here.

            That's all.

Yes, I know it's a very selective quote. However, it
kinda demonstrates one of the problems.

We all have our own opinions on what is a good post
and where a post should be submitted.

We all have the ability to decide if a post should be
reported or if an infraction should be given.

If there was only one person making those decisions
there wouldn't be any differences of opinion.

However, there isn't just one person making those
decisions and everyone has their own values, beliefs
              and filters.

One person's promotion is another person's spam.

              That's life.

Well said Steven! I am confused too. I posted a link to IM resources. Moved to some other forum. I posted it in General discussions because of resources are useful to get traffic and money. Moved to some where ... Not sure where to post.

Or moderators trying to balance the less active forums by moving some threads to those forums, I guess.

Plausible (possible) question the Mods have: How to increase traffic to the low viewed areas?

If good threads are being found in the GD area that are related to positive/productive/profitable ways of thinking, it would make sense to put those threads in the MW area to help increase traffic.

Seems like most of the really good stuff that's being posted recently is being pushed off the first page by a lot of the things the Hamster King mentioned.

Why, oh why do people continue to start threads asking about Allen or a mod's decision to move, delete, _______, ________, ________, a thread?

The answer is simple - PM a mod or admin and simply ask the question.

Unless I overlooked one of the posters, not a single person responding to this thread can answer the question.

Now, one might expect and even tolerate someone new to the forum starting a thread and asking this question. it's understandable, because they're new and don't know the ropes.

Dare I say it? The original thread was moved, so the OP needed a way to get a link to the moved thread out in the Main Discussion Area. The best way to do that?

Start a thread, acting like you've no idea that you could ask a mod or admin why it was moved and then link to the original thread in your OP.

And that of course allows the OP a little more exposure to his signature.

This thread should have been deleted long ago. It boggles the mind that the OP thinks members of the WF are such sheep that he would continue pull this (again and again).

And who missed the innocuous threat, i.e.; "If I am to Continue posting here,,,", sheesh, give it rest.

    No it's not that simple.

Sometimes it's better to ask in the public than to ask in a PM because others might have the same question or even the answer.

If someone PMed Allen or the one advertised MOD for every question, they would spend hours answering PMs.

BTW: Technically a MOD was asked because we are all MODs.

Yes, it really is that simple - especially for an experienced member here. The thread was moved - clearly a mod or admin took the decision to move it. Really? End of story.

Instead, the resident drama queen felt he should intentionally and blatantly bypass the decision by starting a new thread and promoting a link to the moved one in his OP.

Nice example to help other members learn by - seems to me that in the long run it would create more work for the mods to allow the Wagonites to use this method to say, "Screw you mod - I got their attention anyways."

Is this the Main Internet Marketing Discussion Forum or is it the Steven Wagenheim Forum?
