Video Converters

by Tom Mansell 8 replies
Hi all,

I have just finished creating a video.

Took it straight off my cam and its 144mb!

It's in AVI format and I was just wondering
if there were any converters out there that
can seriously shrink the size of it because
I want to put it on a sales page.

Free or paid software, I don't mind.

Warm Regards,
Tom

Search for Video Compressor - that's the word you're looking for.
Converter just changes from AVI to MPG, WMV, MP4 and other stuff.

One of the best video conpressors I recommend is DivX. There are more
out in the market but just do a Google search. You'll get your answers
    easily.

In my opinion, one of the best converters out there is a free one called "super". Converts to almost any format or size, you can get it here:

    SUPER © .

I assume you are just wanting to convert your file for download?

I recommend quicktime pro ($29) and use the h.264 codec for compression. I would suggest a bit rate somewhere in the range of 300kbps mono audio at 32kbps.

Your file will be tiny and still look good :-)

There are only two codecs that will give you the highest compression with the best image quality and that is h.264 for mov/mpeg4 and vp6 for flv (flash video). If you want to encode with vp6 then the most affordable solution is Flix Standard from On2.com at $39.

          Cheers Josh.

I am trying out all the products mentioned in this thread
to find out which is the best for what I want.

Thanks for the two suggestions I will go and try them out.

          Warm Regards,

The main thing to remember is that you should always use the advanced settings and set your bit rates and audio settings manually in those encoding solutions.

That is the only way to get the best results for compression because the presets in quicktime pro are just ridiculous defaulting to stereo HQ audio and unnecessarily high bit rates.

              Hi Josh,

Purchased Quicktime Pro on your recommendation.

How do I find these advanced options?

At the moment I am just exporting for web?

              Is this wrong?

Thanks for the help so far.

              Warm Regards,
              Tom
