How do you keep a track of ideas

What is the best way to keep a track of ideas and notes, people say write everything down, but you dont always have a pen or paper to hand, using my phone, samsung galaxy note would seem the easiest, but i have Evernote, and it just seems too clunky, also I thought about mindmaps, any one have any ideas, or know of some great software, thanks.

    You may try WORKFLOWY

    I've tested it.

    It works like a charm

I've used FreeMind and it's a great tool to create mind maps. It is opensource software and free...

I tried Evernote and came to the same conclusion as you.

I now use "Google Search" (along with gmail) on my Galaxy SIII. I simply hit the microphone and say"Note to Self, Idea, then describe idea".

It is easy, fast, free and you can run a simple search in gmail "Idea" and your ideas come up.

I use cutting edge technology. I write 'em down in a spiral-bound notebook.

I don't know what kind of computer you've got all of mine have either windows 7 or windows 8 on them. The sticky note pad app thing is awesome. I started using them heavily when vista launched. The bad thing is that I've got over 20 of these things on my desktop! Also if for some reason your computer shuts off or something the sticky notes are all auto recovered .

Ha! stuff like this is why I love this forum. Using a notebook? That's so retro! lol You know they have a spiral notebook app for the iPad?

Yeah, I have a few devices but to me they're often more of a pain. I keep records of everything on a couple of computers but it's so much easier for me to sit in a comfortable chair with my notes and a clipboard and write stuff out.

The important thing isn't the media method as much as it is to record your ideas and to make lists of the stuff you want to get done. If people are happy doing that digitally, more power to 'em. I'm actually one of those people though I have one foot in the past with written notes and one foot in the present with digital stuff.

Computers may sometimes let you down. When you do not expect, they may show "battery low" message or "error". So I would stick to pen and pencil. :-)

But that's the beauty of the sticky notes program with windows. It does not go away until you make it go away . And I'm talking about little notes like, hey the password for this new blog you made is... blah blah blah. Or hey don't forget to email joe about this, that, and the third.

How in depth of notes are we talking here?

I also use Freemind, plus pen and paper, of course.

Scrivener is pretty handy too, if you are writing a book, etc.

Freemind is totally free, and easy to learn/use.

Scrivener has a 30 day free trial (30 days of actual use, as opposed to consecutive days, which is awesome.) If you want to keep using it after that, it costs about 40 bucks.
