How can I maximize my mailing list?

Hi there,

I am fairly new to internet marketing, as well as this forum (which is awesome).

My website in question is: Shoe Porn - These Shoes Will Excite You
My website features shoes for both men and women, sold by several different companies which I am an affiliate of. I do not stock or ship any product.

I am getting a large amount of organic sign ups to my mailing list, around 25 a day.

I currently send out a newsletter with the top shoe deals I have found on the web that week. This has generated some traffic, and definitely helps. Although this is all I do with the list.

I am stuck on what else I can do with my list.

Any suggestions great Warrior Forum masters?

Thank you so much!

Well why did you get into this niche in the first play? How are you making money on the website? I don't know much about shoes, but I did see that people can buy these shoes from the links on your site. Do the sites offer reffer bonuses? If so maybe you can make a deal with some of the sites to advertise on your site and you could possibly email the list coupons and must see shoes etc.

Write an ebook on how to choose the best shoes for any situation.
Either give a part of it for free and sell the rest; or give it away for free.

You need to make it obvious that you have a mailing list! I went to the site and couldn't find anywhere to sign up within 10-15 seconds.

I'd suggest making a homepage, rather than having the home page be a catalog page. On the home page, explain who you are and what the site is about. Then make an offer (free) that gets people to opt into your list. Seems like you'd need some strong incentive like coupon codes or special sale prices or something that would want to make a shoe lover opt in. I'm not sure an e-book would do the trick either, but I may be wrong.

Love the name, might scare some folk off clicking though thinking their going to end up seeing a bunch of real life porn involving shoes. Clever design too.

What theme is that you are using?

Also the 'shoe deals' button (at least my on PC) is obscuring the logo and not easy to see. People are needing to click that to get onto the mailing list and it's difficult to find. I think you need an opt in form on the main page.

This really surprised me, because I can't find an opt-in on the site. I wouldn't have known that I could sign-up, let alone where.

(Not that I'm interested in shoes or anything, natch ...)

Thanks everyone for your input. I originally got into this niche because, I'm a girl, and I like shoes, simple as that. I will create an opt in page upon entry. I'm not sure about the e-book, but will definitely consider it.

I currently use MadMimi for my newsletters. In the newsletter you will click on a shoe which takes you directly to the site to purchase the shoes, which I of course get commissions. I also have links back to my website. I usually find shoes that fit a theme like "Step into Spring"... [Shoe Deals] 70% off brands like Patrizia, Fergalicious and Nine West + FREE shipping! Happy Spring!

I currently get the majority of sign ups through forum posting, linkedIN groups, articles on fashion blogs, and I post shoe deals page everywhere (all social media): Shoe Deals | Cheap Shoes

Currently we work only in US$ companies, but will look into UK as well. 98% of my customers are coming to the site from the US.

I use Piwik to track everything. I also have a broken link detector, so all links should work fine.

Thanks for letting me know about the logo, although on my screen it looks perfect, but I am also working off a 23" monitor. It also looks fine on my smart phone.

Any other input is highly appreciated! You are all so helpful!

  • When you send them the email are you linking to your site or the vendor's site?

Because a mix of this would really help you out.

Why not install a "tell a friend" script to one of the pages on your site? (just Google "tell a friend" script & you find a few). Now put together your own shoe eBook report, which focuses on something like "looking after your shoes" "which shoes for which occasion?" ""How to spot a bargain" etc etc...(I don't know much about shoes, so what topic(s) you think are best!).

Now send out an email broadcast to your existing list directing them to this page (which has the "tell your friend" script). Tell them that they can get access to the eBook you put together for FREE if they send an email to 5 or 6 of their friends telling them about your site! (You'll get a better idea what talking about when you take a look at the script!)

So you could explode your list if every one of your existing subscribers tells 5 of his/her friend about your site! Very powerful viral strategy!

    That's one way..

That's a nice site, and if needs an opt-in form as part of the header.

Like others have said the logo is a bit overlapping the content, but you have real potential here with this site. The only thing is the pair of asic's I clicked on gave a commission junction 404 and then the other pair were a US site priced in dollars, but I live in the UK.

In terms of hook for opt-in I think a coupon or discount would work best, and then updates with hot trends of the week. The people who join will be wanting to buy shoes not read ebooks about them, so work with offline shops to try and come up with your own deals to get a cut of the sale directly from them?

lastly you can also use the list to send traffic to social media, and run contest and get yourself seen by the shoe makers as someone who is a big player.

I'm surprised to see LinkedIn is a good source of traffic for this type of site. Pinterest would surely be the best though, no? Tumblr could be good too.

What's the theme you are using? I have an idea for a site that will work great with that sort of thing.

FYI - everyone who is confused about the mailing list squeeze page, and how she's able to get 25 signups a day.

It's the "Shoe Deals" menu item at the top with the $ sign

I agree with some of the Warriors that the sign up form should be more obvious as viewers online will not purposely go and look for the sign up form. You might want to do something like Groupon website where the opt in form will appear when the visitors want to visit the website. You can have an option below that says "Click here if you have already subscribed" which will direct them straight to the website.

You might want to check out the most recent trend on shoe so that you will be able to get their interest. It will be a good idea to share with them some information on how to buy the proper shoe, how to take care of shoe or other useful information. You will want to email them consistently to get maximum leverage out of them.
