I use hostgator and they have 24/7 live support via chat, so them not being in the UK has made no difference to me.

It would make a difference to site load speeds if you're solely targeting the UK market. Maybe some SEO boosts as well.

I use hostgator for most of my sites, but for solely UK sites focusing on UK traffic I use fasthosts. Haven't had a problem yet. For some clients that want more control, you could source out local server providers.

I have used Vidahost (UK based) for a few years now.

They are awesome - support is lightning quick. You can create a support ticket and get a response normally within 10 minutes or you can call them on a Freephone telephone number. I build websites for a living and Vidahost have never let me down.

I have a coupon code for a 10% discount off hosting too. Simply add the code VIDA2013 to the order to activate the discount.

@ AndrewStark. I have a Hostgator account, but I prefer this particular site to have it's own hosting as it's a joint project with a .co.uk domain name.

Just had a reply to my support request. They say an account on my server is repeatedly the subject of a "huge DDoS attack" so they have to take the server down. They have offered to move my account to a more stable server.

I've asked them to do that. I'll see if that helps.

I've always recommended Heart Internet: Reseller Hosting, Web Hosting, VPS & Dedicated Servers | Heart Internet

I've been with them for years, and I like and trust them. They're not the cheapest, but neither are they particularly expensive.

(They've also won some sort of independent magazine/industry hosting awards, I think. And I've certainly seen other UK Warriors recommending them, too.)

I am also using heart. Solid no problems. Good support.

I also have an account at Tsohosts. Also good, solid support. I think I like their contro, panel slightly better, but not enough to make me prefer one to the other.

I use Vidahost, submitted a ticket yesterday about a delay receiving my upgraded service, it was sorted in 15 mins, Pretty impressed with them so far (been with them 18months)

Across the channel, in Amsterdam, is EuroVPS and Stablehost. Both are EXCELLENT hosts.
