Software To Record Computer Screen

Hello Everyone,

I see Warriors using some sort of software in which they create videos that show people their computer screen and what they are doing step-by-step. Often times there is a yellow circle to highlight where the mouse is as the Warrior navigates around the various menu options (in Wordpress for example). Does anyone know which software this is? Is it free or open source?

Thanks

If you have an iMAC 10.6.8 or later, then you will have screen capture software built into your Quicktime application. You can Also buy ISHOWU or ISHOWUPRO, which is less than $30 if I remember correctly.

There are two free screen capture programs worth checking out...
    ScreenCapStudio
CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software

I think most are using Camtasia but it's a wee bit pricey if you're just strating out - but well worth the investment all the same.

    Anyway...

The two free alternatives to Camtasia above are more than capable of creating screen capture videos. My favorite of the two is screencapstudio though.

    there are others of course.

Me and my team almost exclusively use Camtasia 8 for video creation...Yes it is pricey compared with a few of the other options out there, but you get what you pay for.

I have tried a few, but the best I have came across is SnagIt. Its from TechSmith, and they have another cool tool for screenshot capture, video recording, its Jing. Jing is free to use, and I can bet you will love it. It has a built in function to either save recorded video, or publish it to screencast. You will get a link when you publish video to screencast, you can share the link, and others will be able to see your videos. Or you can save it, and then upload the video to YouTube, and then share its link.

    Camtasia is definitely my favorite.

It's also great to edit the videos.

I use Camtasia for mac although you can also use Screenflow which is about the same price ($100). I like Camtasia but I know the PC version is much more expensive ($300).

For short videos I have used Jing and Screenr.com too. There's a 5 minute limit on recordings, but they can get the job done. It all depends on what you are looking to do. You don't need a bulldozer to plant a garden... and you shouldn't dig up a foundation for your new home with a hand shovel. Find the right tool for the right task.

Jing, Jing, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned more. A great free video tool. My significant other uses Jing every day to make instructional videos for customers, clients, and her hired help.

It has a paid version I believe, but the free version works just fine, and is very easy to use. I recommend it 100%.

    Camtasia - hands down.
Cam Studio Works, but it's hard work to do anything useful with it. So if you have no money, use this until you have money then buy camtasia.

I use Camtasia. It's user friendly and it gets the job done.

That's not to say there aren't other effective and cheaper or free options though.
