Are these songs that are being sold through albums, or CD's?

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure it would be illegal, since you do not have the
legal rights to sell the music.

  Hi ariyes,

Yep, it's illegal. You don't own the rights to the music and thus, you can't sell your music collection. Unless you wish to call up each company that owns the music and inform them that you want to make a compilation or setup a website and you've got a royalty system in place for them.

People in music business survive through royalties - continual sales from their songs.

Highly illegal and you would be looking at huge fines - $250,000 per incident I believe.

If you were clever you could start a site that caters for unsigned Metalbands to upload their mp3's and you can either charge them a percentage of their mp3 sales or you can charge membership fees if you drive enough traffic to your site. It will be a challenge tho.

  Thanks

Personally, I would try to sell them back to the original artists...

Highly likely to be illegal, unless of course you either own the copyright or have the facilities to pay the original owners of the copyright their royalties, for all 5000 tracks!!

Yep, illegal. However, you should really ask a qualified legal expert for more advice.

You could also create a directory that points to where YOU got the music. BUT, again, you'll want to consult an attorney. After all, it may not be a good idea to broadcast that you swiped 5,000 songs. Just a thought.

Once we know it's illegal, why do we need to ask a legal expert?
