Affiliate link in blog post + call to join list?

Hello forum,

I'm building a list at the moment but it's still rather small. In the meantime I need to raise some money pretty quickly over the next 2-3 months.

My question is, has anyone found any benefit to placing an affiliate link (to a good clickbank product) in each of their blog posts (I'm adding a good quality post daily based on my reader's needs/wants) AND adding a call to opt-in to their newsletter as well?

If money wasn't a pressing issue I probably wouldn't consider adding affiliate links except in the newsletter but I'm thinking more short-term cash (not even that much, just a few hundred dollars) at the moment.

What are the pros and cons?

I've had a couple of direct sales (without newsletter preselling) already since I started and that was from an 'okay' sales page I wrote on my website when I first started. I just wonder, for the time being, how that would probably translate when there's a link in every blog post as well.

What are your experiences of this?

    Hey beamkiss,

    yea, it works.

the key is not to hard sell and present relevant offers.

Above or below the article you can include a "My recommendations" or "Today I recommend" box with your affiliate links.

I'm seeing at least 2-3 sales/day from this even though the traffic is not astronomical.

Those who are not in the mood of opting in, at least makes some quick buck by leaving my blog.

(you can check my sig to see it in action.)

    Hope this helps.

I think there are potentially huge disadvantages to doing this, and that it loses far more than it gains, but you should perhaps test it for yourself, if you think otherwise. The big problem with it, for me (i.e. for my visitors/customers/readers/subscribers), is that it makes the site look "salesy", and affiliate sites should be pre-selling, not selling.
