What to charge for PLR?

Hey Warriors,

Last fall I wrote an ebook on marketing iPhone apps. It was easy for me to write since I was the one that came up with the method. To go back in the story, the reason I wrote this book is that I created a iPhone game and accomplished what a lot of newbie app developers couldn't do. The game debuted at number 12 in its category. Then I used the same methods again and re released it as a free game and it got into the top 100 of Free games in its category (no easy feat). The method (a form of list building and some other techniques) I used could apply to any type of app.

Anyway, I wrote a 120 page book on how I did it but never got around to marketing it because my work keeps me very busy creating games(I actually flew in from Milan yesterday where I was lecturing on the history of video games). My friend told me I should sell PLR rights to it but I have a couple questions.

1. How much should I sell PLR rights for? It's a very detailed book and is not vague in any sense. I know a lot of markers buy articles and ebooks to add to packages and I think this one could be valuable to not only app developers but to people who are starting out to make money online and looking for ideas.

2. Should I put a limit on how many PLR licenses I sell? What is a good number?

Sorry for the wordy post but I wanted to give you guys as much info as possible before you answer.

Thanks!

    Hello lockinnow,

Impressive subject. A few things I would consider when selling PLR to it:

    1. It sounds like it's quite comprehensive, so the material would warrant a higher price. However, two caveats with that:

    a. Are the methods you used still applicable to creating an in-game app today? (You mentioned this was last fall, and we know how quickly the Internet marketing landscape can change; even the gaming landscape, as many developers are now focused on Android more so than Apple, since many are thinking that Apple is harder to compete with all of the developers rushing to it over the past 1-2 years).

    b. Do you have any promotional materials to promote this product, including graphics, a sales letter, emails, tweets, Facebook messages, etc.? New Internet marketers would want everything made up to promote it, as they may not see the product as a "hands-free" product, which could turn them off on buying it, especially if you charge a high amount for it (I'm talking at least $100s, if not maybe low $1000s).

As for veteran Internet marketers, they may be able to run with it without the promotional materials, but they would want them to quickly insert your product as a moneymaker. Plus, I think many of them would want to have a sales letter, promotional emails and tweets, etc. so that they could edit it quickly rather than have to create them from scratch.

That would influence your pricepoint- if you have the promotional materials for your product, you could charge considerably more for it. Without them, you could still charge a solid amount, but not as much.

    2. I would limit the number of PLR licenses you sell, as this would greatly increase the value. If you allow everyone to get a PLR license, it would seriously dilute the product, which intermediate and advanced Internet marketers would definitely see and not be willing to pay you as much for it because they would have to do more work (both in time and money) to make the product more exclusive.

Beginner Internet marketers who are aware of the importance of limiting PLR licenses would not be as eager to buy either because they would feel that more competition would make it harder to sell, and they may not be as resourceful or knowledgeable about transforming the PLR product into a product that would be easier to sell because it was more exclusive.

There are Warriors who can help you with the sales letters, graphics, emails, tweets, copyediting, etc. (myself included) if you need assistance. Certainly, having those would greatly enhance the value of your product, as would limiting the number of PLR licenses to your products.

Hopefully, this was helpful! Good luck with your product- it certainly sounds like it has considerable potential, especially if you market it properly via the advice above.

    Take care,

    Hey Joe,

Thanks for that information! I do have some of that material (articles, sales letter, banners) but I want to polish them up a bit because it could apply to Android as well.

I would like to restrict the amount of licenses I sell. Since you're more of a pro, what do you think a good number of limited licenses to sell is?

    Thanks again.
