What channels are there to get traffic to a new website?

16 replies
Hi,

I was having a wee think about it, and wondering it Google and other search engines disappeared, what other ways could we be driving traffic to our sites.

The ones I could think of we're

1. Social - FB, twitter google + etc
2. Youtube and other vid platforms
3. Email ( if you have got a list already)
4. PPC
5. Book marking, stubble upon etc

After these I've drawn a bit of a blank, what other channels could there be, have any worked for you?

      Hey Raimundas.

      A good and free way to drive traffic to your blog is commenting on other people's blogs. If you comment on blogs with commentluv your post link will show in the comment and if the post is interesting other people will click on your link, hence traffic to your blog.

      As well, find forums in your niche and participate. If your comments are helpful people will want to find out more about you and they will click on your signature link.

      Best of luck

      Dita

    Hello Raimundas,

    The best way to get traffic is by doing the forum commenting, traffic exchange, guest blogging, creating youtube videos and link wheel.

    Hope this helps.

      I'd second all of the suggestions here. Social media and blog commenting has worked particularly well for me. Something to bear in mind though, is that you need to give these channels enough time. You're unlikely to see results overnight, so make sure that you're giving them a fair chance before you move on to the next.

      Another thought - make sure that you're building a relationship with the traffic once it hits your site, so it isn't just a one-off visit. You could set up an email subscription list with an incentive such as a free e-book in your area of expertise, so you can capture email addresses and write out to them in the future, bringing them back to your site.

      Good luck!

      Hi there,

      1. Forums contribution is a good way to drive traffic. You need to do it right, you will get more taffic.
      2. Guest posting is another good method, I know top marketers use this method. You can use this method for mutual benefits.
      3. You may be able to US Free ads (Free and Paidversion are there) and other classified ad sites depending on your offer.

      You need to test and find the ones that work for you best.

      Image marketing (Pinterest, Instagram) was big last year.

      It seems to be even bigger this year, with Flipboard's new "magazines" feature. Some 100K magazines were created in the first 24 hours of its release: Flipboard

      I'm starting to do a lot more with images, so if I had a new site, I'd be looking at:

      * Pinterest

      * Instagram

      * Slideshare (still basically image marketing)

      * Flipboard Magazines.

      VITAL: Create a Google account, and then get onto Google+. It's doing amazingly well.

      If you have a new site, you need to be on Google's radar, and Google+ is the best/ easiest way of doing that.

      I wish you much success and happiness with your site... :-)

      Cheers

    Hello Bouncingnrg,

    Article marketing
    Blog posting
    Guest blog posting
    Forum marketing/posting (via sig files)
    Press releases (have to be done properly - "newsworthy" - to be effective, but definitely can be)
    Viral marketing (such as free reports from your own website and social media sites or from document-sharing sites, making sure you have an opt-in form and/or affiliate links in the report)
    Kindle/iBookstore/NookPress marketing- write (or have written) books that can lead to your site, email list, product offers, affiliate offers, etc.

    There's likely a bunch more - keep thinking and researching! :-) Hope this helps!

    Take care,

    Well if Google disappeared, then there would be no youtube because Google owns youtube and other sites. However, if Google and other search engines were to disappear, then you would be left with things like article marketing sites, Facebook, Twitter, social bookmarking, word of mouth, and of course the forums.

    Some great responses thanks.

    Flipbook, interesting, I use flip book loads, but I guess people would have to already know about your product/website so that could add it to the flip book feed? Or have you found a new way?

    Forum posting, guest posting and blog commenting is another good way to get a huge amount of traffic, but my favorite way to get traffic is social media.
