Drip feed or not? Membership Site

INTERNET MARKETING

I've begun working on a membership site outside the IM niche.

I'm wondering what the advantages are for drip feeding content vs allowing members to have full access?

It's a continuous membership site meaning content will be added weekly for the life of the site I'd like to keep adding content that the members request, that's why I don't know if drip feeding is the way to go.

Anyone have experience with either method?

Drip fed content is supposed to increase your customer retention rate. If you give people access to all of the content right away then they can download it and cancel their membership. What incentive is there for them to stay and pay the next months membership fee if they already have access to everything?

I've used the drip content approach for years, and it's worked well. Can't speak so much to the other approach.

Drip feed. You don't want people to rip you and turn your content into video or podcast content that would be hard to track down. Think I'm kidding? Just go to fiverr and you'll see many providers that can read materials and turn them into video or audio. Plus, drip feed allows you add 'bonuses' to your content as a reward for members referring your site to their friends/social networks.

I am just about to go down this road too. I was thinking of drip feeding, purely just to keep retention rates high. Plus think of it this way, do you want someone that buys in three years to have access to absolutely everything? I think not

Ya I like drip fed content both as a consumer and as a marketer.

As a consumer it allows you to stay focused on the next task and not become overwhelmed with the whole course. We all know as consumers sometimes it's hard to NOT go through the whole course at once because we're so jacked up about our purchase and want to know what it's all about right away without implementing first (the whole reason you bought it in the first place).

As a marketer drip fed content increases your customer retention rates which is always a huge plus.

The best way to keep the retention up is to add new content regularly, a lot of it.

If you have a large amount of existing content, you could gradually increase access, not only do they get new every month, they get access to more of the old stuff.

Another option a few of my clients use is to give drip content for the duration of your refund period (say, 60 days) and then once the refund period is over, grant full access to all of the content.

I don't know how good that is from the perspective of your members actually learning but depending on your niche it may be a good way to go.

Another thing you can and should do to increase customer retention is to have a forum or some sort of community built around the membership site. Get people involved in something and make them feel a part of a group. People love to feel a part of something. If you do this you make it much harder for people to leave.
