How can I make my Ebook images clearer?

I'm trying to add a few screenshots to my Ebook, but they're looking kind of blurry. (I am currently using .jpg images set to 100% quality... but the screenshots look blurry compared to how they appear in my web browser).

Anyone happen to know how I can eliminate the blur? I am planning to sell this book for Amazon Kindle. Here are the image types that Kindle supports:

Any ideas?

When you say they look blurry in your ebook, what are you using to create your ebook? I assume you are writing it in a program such as Microsoft Word and then using a program or tool to convert that to as PDF document?

Most PDF converters will have settings that control the resolution/quality of the finished pdf document. The higher the resolution the better the quality images, etc will be but the larger the file size will be also.

Here's a free online PDF converter with resolution option:

Another problem may be the size of your original image is to big or too small and when it's resized to the size you need it inside your ebook, the image is getting distorted as a result.

I am shrinking the image a bit prior to putting in my Ebook -- but I'm not altering the width/height ratio at all. (I use a Word processing program called Scrivener, which I highly recommend, by the way).

That said, the saved image appears blurry even before I transfer it into Scrivener. The loss seems to happen when I save the screenshot as a .jpg file. (Maybe this happens with all .jpg files?)

How are you 'shrinking' the image?

Are you just dragging the corners to make it smaller?

If you're doing it that way, the smaller image will be blurry

Adjust the image size in say 'Microsoft Office Picture Manager'

I use that all the time to reduce images, and I get no loss in image clarity even at the smaller size

You can also download Gimp (free Photoshop alternative) and see if sizing it in there works better.

I would have to agree with Entrecon Gimp is really good I use it all the time...also if you on a PC ..people tend to underestimate paint....that can work for you also.

You should check out OnOne Perfect Resize. They resize images, reduce size but doesn't lose quality. It is a paid product but you can take the free trial.

I use SnagIt to resize. I just insert the new width size (in pixels) and it automatically adjusts the height for me.
