List Building Strategies; Which Way To Jump

Okay, I'm going to admit that I've never done any list building, and I'm going to say that I realize how big a mistake that was.

So going forward with building lists, I'm looking at two concepts.

1. Mike Filsaime obviously highly recomends building lists with the freebie offer/OTO/Upsell model. Generate the biggest list you can, and make it dead easy for even those who just take the freebies to become affiliates.

2. Allen wrote a report at one time about using short reports to build your list. This has the bonus that of course everyone on your list is a buyer. The list will obviously be smaller, and the viral potential of people recommending the free offer even if they haven't purchased the upgrade is lost.

What are your thoughts on these two models? Do you use both? Do you prefer one to the other?

Anyone actually done some good solid testing to see if one or the other produced the best results?

TIA

Dane

I would say do both and test to see which works better for you. Then you focus your efforts on the method that is a winner.

And I most likely WILL test both.

Peoples answers to such questions are still telling and valuable.

Did you ever notice that “author” is the root of the word “authority“?

Yeah test both. For me I like #1.
