WP - I see "visual" - I see "text" -- Where's HTML?

Wordpress...

I see tabs that say "visual" (WYSIWYG), and "text" (have NO idea what that is! -- absolute jibberish).

So where's html?

Text is HTML not sure why they changed it but you can put your HTML under the text tab

  • The 'Text' area is where you put your HTML code, you can then switch to the visual tab to see how it looks or simply preview the page within Wordpress.

When I click on the tap that says "text"
I see a bunch of absolute jibberish that certainly is NOT html!

How about you make a screenshot of the thing you don't understand?

You put the HTML in the Text Editor. If the coding worked correctly you can move to the Visual editor and your HTML code will show up as it would on your website.

The "jibberish" may be HTML5, which to me, has some unnecessary code in it :p but that's just my opinion.

Put your coding in Text, Preview to make it's working or go to Visual.

If you go from Visual to Text and back again sometimes you'll get the < in their ascii codes, like &amp or something. Stay in the Text Editor and use Preview.

  • That's basic HTML...

Just kidding :p But are you trying to edit an already existing post or what? I don't quite follow what you are trying to do mate. Why not just create a new page/post in Wordpress?

I did create a page. I did edit it fine a few times.
What I am trying to do now is edit it again.
      I've got 2 problems now.
      1) If I want to edit the html, I cannot because the "text" tab gives me that jibberish, NOT the html! -- Why?
      2) Now the edit page page does not function properly. My browser SAYS it's there, but the page is not functioning. If I click on something, nothing happens. I see the page, but it's "dead."

Am I somehow living in the matrix? What IS that code?

  • Sounds like it could be a cache problem.

Try clearing your cache and restart your browser.

Let me know if that helps :-)

Yes -- Thanks! I figured it out.
I was adding some images in an unusual way (not via media library) THAT's what was producing the jibberish -- and the editor page not working well. It was just too overloaded with the code ("jibberish") for those incorrectly added images!

Anyhow, I am rebuilding the page and adding the images the right way!!

    Thanks everyone for your help.

If the page is blank then sounds like it is being called dynamically using php, almost like an extension of HTML to cater for large websites/databases in its absolute simplistic form

Your website is the window to your business . Don't fill it with cheap crap !

What I don't know about Wordpress either isn't worth knowing or hasn't been invented ;)
