Domain Names.. Hmmmmm

Ok, so basically i have been searching for some domain names to sell for some big $$$! All the .com .net .biz etc are all taken on over 40 or so names ive used... BUT..... all of the domains have .co.uk purchaseable... now, am i right in thinking .co.uk is difficult to sell, or doesnt it sell for much?

It's possible but highly unlikely, I suggest that you buy the domain and develop it into a blog or a website. You can install wordpress and get some traffic to it. That way you'll have a much better chance of selling it for $100+

Well, for a good domain name, I agree that you can fetch the price of $100+. If it is a dot com, then the price will be good as far as I can tell. But now most of the good domain names have been taken so it is unlikely to find one so easily.

That's why there are hunters for the old domain names that have not been renewed. There are treasure among those domain names.

Let's say you could. What is your plan after that? What is your long term goal?

To invest it into my business!

I do have a good feeling about buying a single word .co.uk domain name like internet.co.uk (taken before you try) and then selling it straight away for a quick $100 or so.

If there was a high paying demand for it, why is it still available?

I do agree it would be a great name for UK internet-related company, but the UK is your market. You won't lose much by trying it with one domain, $5.00 you said, so why not give it a shot? I market it directly to UK internet-related businesses, it will be more valuable to them than anyone else.

If it the name flipping strategy doesn't work, you can always try developing it into a site and flipping the site. Of course, that name is taken, so unless it's you that reserved it, the real names you have in mind might not be near as good as your rhetorical example.

Unless you're pretty wealthy, it's not likely that you'll purchase any one word domain name for less than thousands of dollars.

Basically, .co.uk is preferred over .com by a lot of UK people and businesses, but it's a smaller niche to sell to than your typical .com market. If you're going to buy a domain name for $5, you're going to get a $5 domain name, most likely. The way to make it more valuable is to develop it and get some traffic going to it.

Content is everything. Seriously, some people buy domains with keywords in it..others put a blog up called perezhilton get all controversial and bingo they have made a name for themselves. The days of buying a name to sell to the big guys is over, but selling a domain with some great content, links and traffic..now that IS a different story

I may be wrong but isn't there a 60 day period that one must wait between buying / selling or transfering a domain?

Hey guys, I have a question to add to this.

I have a domain that I have developed into an article directory with over 30,000 authors in it but haven't had the time to update it in over 6 mths. I built it initially just to see if I could but never really had vision to operate it.

Where would you suggest I sell it and how much would something like that be worth?

    Thx in advance
    Vince

Sedo.com is one of the best known for domain / website sales

Could always try selling it here at the WF in the classifieds...a lot of websites / domains are bought / sold there.

    Good luck,
    Ken

Also check out DNJournal.com and Moniker.com, they are both great sources of domain prices, whats selling and they have domain auctions all the time. These folks move a lot of domains and will act as a third party seller helping you sell your domains.

    I have ToTheBank.com for sale.

No problems buying a new domain name with GoDaddy and selling the same day - you just transfer to the new users GoDaddy account. That is not the same as changing registrars within 60 days. If the buyer does not have a godaddy account, they can get it free and will be buying a years registration with the name - if you just bought it.

    HI

buying and selling .co.uk domain is a pain because you can not just push the domain to the person you have sold it to like you can with a .com or other extension, with a .co.uk you need to get some forms from the .co.uk registar and then sign them and get the new owner to do the same... a lot of work for a $100 sale.

plus .co .uk domains do not sell that well to start with.... stick to .com

    Tom
