Kindle newbie! What's your tip?

Till now I have been doing affiliate marketing. But I think i should also invest some of my resources for kindle publishing to have a more dependable income source.

Do you have any suggestions/tips that i should follow while creating ebooks?

I have a few questions in my mind:

1. What topics are best? I have seen that fiction sells more, is that true?
2. How to promote ebooks? Any tips there?

Also, what should be the ideal price tag for the books..

Thanks in advance for any help!

My advice is probably one you might not want to listen...

Bring forward what you have inside, your unique proposition. Find that thing you are proud of and give a damn if it works or not, because it was so much fun and inspiring to do it, that anything else doesn´t matter.

Once you are doing it, see what questions people have in that matter, and find the solutions, the more you find the better.

And to promote... build relationships and be your own affiliate, even if the pay is not the best at the beginning.

    1) Whichever topic you actually have some interest in. If you don't care about the topic, that will shine through in the work, and the audience will also not care.

    2) Free days through KDP, FB, Twitter, Blogging, etc.

    Definitely write about something you

    a) Know well b) enjoy

Of course, you can always pay somebody to write for you, in which case you'll want to research your niches to see what's already selling.

Health, wealth and relationships are ALWAYS in demand, so if you can find a unique angle for a book and deliver awesome content, you can do well.

Most importantly...get started! Kindle publishing is so freakin' easy. Much easier than affiliate marketing. Good luck!

Create ebooks that people want to buy! Kick-butt stuff...

      Treat it like a business.

      Have a great cover...notice I didn't say good...great.

Start small, and work your way up. Don't try to write a 400-page book as your first Kindle ebook.

If you are worried about formatting - outsource it. You can get it done for $20...

      Have fun.

        Couldn't have say it better
Even if choosing a topic that you loved doesn't mean that you will make a ton of money because YOU love the topic.

Choose a topic that you know people are totally irrational about.
Choose a topic that you know people are getting together (Forum, groups, events)
Choose a topic that you know people are in great number.

Then you have a topic to write about.

Treat it like a business and you'll be on your way!

        hope this help

Here are a few tips for you:

Never use PLR on the Kindle and don't listen to anyone who says you should

Don't think you can just put a book (or a million books) up on Amazon and they will magically just sell. You'll need to market and promote.

Build an "author brand" I've said it so much here I feel I should trademark the term lol, but it's true. It's the difference between success and failure on the Kindle.

Don't use Fiverr for formatting, book covers, or to outsource your writing, it's an awful way to go.

Be careful who you listen to. There are many "Kindle experts" that pop up out of nowhere hoping to fake it till they make it. Use common sense and test everything.

Write a great book, format it well, put a great book cover on there, write a compelling book description, utilize some free day promotions, and sell/market your book, yourself, and your brand.

Topics that you are an expert in. Try to bevelop a good name. Fictions sells more.

    2. How to promote ebooks? Any tips there?
I use freebooksy it works great in the $100 option because they tweet a list of free e-books available on amazon. Kindle users are only approx 10% of total internet users so I like to advertise in Kindle Buffet as it is only $15 and 99%+ of viewers own a Kindle from amazon. Not a good idea to do ads in newspapers or magazines.

If you're into erotica and romance, I've noticed these genres always sell with little to no promotion. I write, publish and move on to my next story. Some themes could make you $5 per month while others could reach $300+.

Also, you may eventually have questions regarding a book's word count. The simple answer is that it needs to be as long or as short as you wish. Just make sure you cover everything that needs to be covered. If it answers all the questions and you're satisfied with it from a reader/customer's perspective, that's generally a very good sign.

It can sell more, but only if you know how to write it well and are committed to building an author platform. You may have to put out several books before your sales start to take off.

Make sure you have a good ebook cover and title..I've change a few of my eBook covers and seen my sales increase just by changing the cover. As the saying goes you can't judge a book by its cover well they actually do so make sure your covers and titles are good!

Definitely having a good ebook cover helps drive sales. The book cover will be the first and biggest graphic element your potential readers will see. For newbie publishers with little budget, you can head over to micro job sites like fiverr to get yours done. Of course you'll encounter trash designs along the way so it's very important that you choose wisely. I'm on fiverr and I've just started offering my ebook cover service. I'm going to use it as a push for a better and more profitable online ecovers design biz. Although I can earn so much more from other channels, I like the idea that fiverr does the selling for me. I heard there is potential for higher profits when you start leveling up so I'm interested to find that out for myself. Head on over to my signature and se if I can help you out.

I think the best place to do your research is at Amazon itself! Check out the bestsellers, readers comments / reviews and what the books are selling for. Then 'duplicate'. However, it's even better to ask yourself what you like? Your passion? Find out if there is a market for it and then create it.
    Good Luck!

I recently wrote a blog post on finding potentially-profitable niches (assuming you're in it strictly for the money and are not limited to writing about your passion.) The blog post is simple enough to keep you from getting overwhelmed, yet detailed enough to help you get started.

I've been testing $3.99 and it sells fewer books but I end up with a higher profit margin. Amazon has millions of credit cards all poised to buy your $2.99 book. I was skeptical at first but when the sales start rolling in it is exciting to see. Remember it is a portfolio method. You won't retire on 1 book but you can earn a nice income off a portfolio books.

      Andy
Andy, what's more important to you - number of sales, highest profit margin or total revenue?

So far it sounds like you've only tested two prices, $2.99 and $3.99. How do you know that $3.49, $3.97 or $3.28 might not make you the most money?

It might be a bit premature to declare that $2.99 is the best price for everyone, on all books, based on one very limited test...

        This.

There are also people who've split-tested over thousands of sales and found they earn more money selling at $0.99 than they do at $2.99 because they can sell about 12 times as many copies. (And probably people who've found more like the opposite, too. A lot depends on the genre/niche).

Sounds like you have it down....you need to write first. Then write some more and yet write again.

    Have passion, but take action.

And also as you found out: ask the right question.

Your post brought out some of the extreme heavy hitters, Kindle Supreme Commanders, writing experts and general super stars of the Warrior Forum!

Lesson learned: if you ask the right question, you get the right answer.

Re-read this post and follow some of the posters for additional hidden gems. You will not be disappointed!

I don't know if someone mentioned it, but you cannot overlook formatting.

It's one of the biggest reasons that people refund a book, and it's one thing that will usually motivate people to leave a bad review.

The good thing is, it's easily preventable, and easily fixable (if it slips through your editing process).

    Pay attention to formatting.

Don't worry about anything except creating great content first. The great thing about the Kindle platform is that it's a little easier to gain traffic. There are actually plenty of free tutorials on the kindle seller's dashboard
