How to word this flyer?

I've a background in web design and some online retail and now I'm in the business of making stores for local individuals or small local businesses. Before I start charging anything, I'd like to grab a couple of clients and make their online stores for free just to have a portfolio and get some confidence in doing that particular type of work.

Is this ideal or would you change anything about it:

Dublin City

Free eCommerce Shop Project

Are you considering paying professions to set up and online store for you? Currently we are developing our portfolio and looking for some clients, so if you have been thinking about having your own online store for a while and would like to find out more then please contact us.

Call: 087 3625342

If you can change the wording at all please do, thanks for any advice.

  • Byron,

I think you have a good start here. I would make the word free the largest thing on the flyer. Something like GET A FREE ECOMMERCE STORE. Then explain your offer. I think people will be pleasantly surprised to find out that what you are offering is actually free.

There are also some good tips in this thread for writing good sales copy,

    Hope that helps,

To start with you have a typo. Professions should read professionals.
I don't believe something like this should be given away free.
Anything free is perceived to be of no value by most people although something free as an add-on is quite acceptable.
I would suggest a discounted price provided they allow you to use their site in your portfolio and marketing
They should jump at this because if they are included in your marketing they will get extra exposure and links for their website

      Hi Byron,

You'll likely get a better response if you make this far more person to person and so get away from the formal tone of your current ad.

Simply tell your prospects who you are and what you are offering ...

... along the lines of how you introduced your thread (a photo of you would be good, too):

In this world of over-hyped advertising people will respond to the plain, unvarnished truth.

If you head the flyer with something like:

Why am I offering to create your e commerce site for free?

[That will have sufficient curiosity value to stop them in their tracks and read your body text, where you explain the deal ...]

      YOUR PICTURE HERE
      WOULD BE GOOD

Dear fellow entrepreneur .. my name is Byron and I'm currently starting to create online stores for local individuals or small local businesses in the Dublin area. Which is why I have something rather special for you ...

... because, right now, I'm offering my services to a few shrewd people for whom I will create an online store completely free, in exchange for permission to allow me to use your site as an example in my advertising.

      I do have
a background in web design and some online retail and the fact that I'm creating this for my portfolio is your guarantee the work will be of the highest quality. What's more, it will naturally bring your site to the attention of a large audience, so you'll likely to benefit from some free publicity as a bonus.

      >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
In truth it's not a free offer, so if you explain it properly, they will be happy to allow you to use their project as an example "in your advertising" as the price they pay.

I use that phrase when asking for permission to use kind comments clients send me. I find that covers pretty much any form of publicity you might want to use the example for later on.

      Warmest regards,

      Paul

      Hi Jeff,

I don't think that the phrase "Free eCommerce Shop Project" will be understood by your clients ... "I Will Make a Free eCommerce Shop For You!" is probably better.

The other problem is that you are telling the world that you are new at this ("We are developing our portfolio"). How about "We are an experienced Website development firm" and "Best quality" and "We want to develop relationships with local Dublin merchants" etc.

Always present yourself as an expert.

LOL ... Thanks! I am not an Internet Marketer (mobile developer) and I am a lousy salesman anyway ... except when I am talking about some area in which I really am an expert. There I get something like a 100% closing rate ...

... try to put more emphasis on the BENEFITS they'll receive; how will your product/service benefit them. People aren't bothered about your credentials - particularly if you have no track record - they want to know "what's in it for me?"
