Is it not a smart idea because of the cost i.e cost per click to individual signup?

Hm..... guess it depends on the cost per lead? And is it a quality lead. If you spend $5 for a lead that will potentially give you $20, by all means go for it. Personally I don't due to the risk.

Facebook can actually be very profitable. Depending what your lead is worth.

Recently I did a little $20 test and got 15 subscribers. + 70 fb likes and $15 from monetizing the thank you page with a cpa offer.

So basically the cost was $5 for 15 subs.

It works but you need to work out the costs and the revenue generated from a small pilot test, improve improve improve the system until you hit the green. And then scale it up.

Basically if you realize that 1/10 on your list will buy something a month, each product bought, you get a commission of $100, that means each visitor is worth $10 to you. If you can then drive traffic to the site for less than $10, you're golden.
