Who's right? Google Analytics or Clickbank?

Hey people, just a quick question.

I set up Goals on Google analytics for the first time and I've entered the URL of the page that is my vendor's sales page (i'm an affiliate), so...

Then I checked on Clickbanks reporting to see how many clicks my hoplink had.

Here are the stats -

From the period of 20. april to 24. april (now),

Clickbank says = 1106
Google Analytics says = 2777

? Now isn't that a little confusing. How can one tracking say 1106, and the other 2777 - that is NOT a small difference, more then double.

I'm not even going to mention how bad this product converts... 1:553, which means 2 sales in 4 days, and if Clickbank is right, I've sent the vendor 1100 visitors, and all I got for it were 2 sales. But if Google Analytics is right - then that was 2777 visitors I've sent them.

Is clickbank ripping us off?

So... did I mess something up... I'm really confused. some good advice would be wellcome.

Thanks

Jack, there are several reasons why the figures are so different.

ClickBank are measuring clicks through the hoplink. However, what is Google Analytics measuring? Presumably it's the number of visitors to the page.

However, let's say Sally clicks through the hoplink. That's +1 for the ClickBank count, and when she gets to your page that's +1 for Google Analytics.

But what if she decides to come back to your page some time later? Maybe she remembered the page address, or bookmarked it. When she comes back, does your Google Analytics count her again?

It may do, in which case it would explain why the stats are different. She only needed to click through the hoplink once, but she's been to your page twice.

Or you may be getting additional traffic to your page from sources other than ClickBank - is that possible?

I can see many ways in which both figures are accurate, because they are measuring slightly different things. ClickBank is probably not robbing you, they are just reporting the number of people who clicked through the link.

Google Analytics are counting the number of visitors to the page, but some of those could be the same visitor coming back, or even traffic from non-ClickBank sources.

    I hope that makes sense!

Alas that is NOT the case. I use a web tracking tool on all my campaigns. I ran an experiment and instead of using a landing page I sent the hops directly to Clickbank.

I got exactly the same results. Clickbank simply is not registering a large percentage of clicks sent to them. I know their analytics are only updated every 3-4 hours and I shut down the campaign for 8 hours to give click bank time to catch up it never did.

I think there's a flaw in their tracking system and they won't admit it.

Isn't their tracking system still in beta?

Jack, don't drive yourself crazy and overcomplicate this.

          Clickbank tracking is FUBAR.

          They're simply not recording clicks.

Don't stress it. Be thankful that you have Analytics going for you. At least
that way you have a more accurate measuring stick.

As for the product...I'd dump it fast.

Well I can't speak for Jack of course but I have Analytics set up to track every click on my hoplink:

How do I manually track clicks on outbound links? - Analytics Help

And the Google Analytics numbers are much higher than Clickbank's. By about 50%.

Of course I doubt anybody here knows the answer to the question of why this is happening but it definitely makes me wonder if I'm losing sales.

Actually it just makes me wonder how many sales I'm losing.

I have been having a similar problem with clickbank. I use a tracking program that generally agrees with Google within 1-2 clicks. Clickbank simply will not register clicks for half the day. Wheen I complain... Heres what I got.

in the morning clickbank registered 1 click... Google registered 30.
after I complained Clickbank registered 97... Google regiedtered 37...

    Something's really screwy here.
