Can I upload songs on my members site for them to listen to only?

Hello,

I have a site that I am building that is for paid members. I am wanting to create some music players in my website.

My question: Is it legal to take a downloaded or ripped song that I upload to my site and make it available for my paying members to listen to the song only?

I will be creating several players with certain categories and want to just share the music's sound and not the files.

Let me know. Thank you.

It depends. Are you willing to buy a performance license for those songs from the rights holder?

    If yes, fine.

If no, you're on thin ice even if you aren't sharing the files. I'd suggest having a good lawyer on speed dial.

You will be considered an Internet radio station and will be required to get the appropriate licenses from BMI, ASCAP etc.. You need to make a list of the songs you want to play and see who licenses each song. They will set the monthly fee you will have to pay according to estimated listeners.

Without getting the appropriate license you would be breaking the law.

The fact you are hosting those files and people could easily download them if they were that way inclined also makes it even worse.

In short, no, you can't do this. Unless you get a license and pay the appropriate fees.

You're gonna get sued surely for copyright issue.

To asnwer your question of course it isn't legal. You're stealing songs and share it to your audiences without any rights.
