Do Warriors ever barter their services?

Hi all,

Just thinking...there are things I'm good at (as it related to internet marketing skill set) and other things that I absolutely suck at, or don't know how to do at all.

If I wanted to trade services -- like, I'll write that copy if you knock out that bad*ss site design -- does that exist on this forum?

All best,
#barter #services #warriors

I would barter if I knew the people could be trusted to deliver...lol

I actually do it in some ways now.

      Hey Shawn,
Care to expand on that? You can make up a scenario, if you're more comfortable, but hearing what you're talking about would be helpful.

      Thanks,

    Bill,

I currently provide web design services for a business and tech support. In exchange, they provide me with discounts on the products and services they offer. Since I developed a relationship over the last 2-years, I know (trust) this person will deliver.

So, it may start off with money but if I feel the money is not as important as the services I can get in exchange we agree to what each will get for the price and it works.

    Was that helpful?

        Hi Tina,

Thanks for the thought. I agree that this thread may be more appropriate elsewhere...the JV threads seem to be heavy on cross-promotion, ad swaps, etc.

Your example, and Shawn's previously, are what I have in mind.

So to follow you, if I was great at WP themes and/or header designer but hated to (or couldn't) write well, I would want to barter an arrangement of services with you.

        Anyone else feel this way?

        Thanks!

I've bartered my writing skills several times for graphic
services, and don't mind doing it at all.

If there is something I need which can be swapped
equitably, I don't hesitate to barter.

It goes on a lot more than it is made public, IMO.

I think it's a good topic that will hopefully get more attention. With so many newbies coming in saying they're broke, maybe they will see that they have other options.

        Hi Tina,
I completely took you the right way...no worries there!
Interesting that you bring up broke newbies. It sparks a couple of other ideas.
        1) If you're broke but have a skill, then you can get something together. ie, broke but have writing skills, could pair with a graphics guy. Together, create a site.
        2) Many newbies don't have skills, just a need/desire to make money through online means. What could they offer in return that would make sense to someone with experience?

        All best,

There's a lot of talented people here on the WF, and some of
          them do barter their talents.

When I'm the one initiating the barter, I do my utmost best to
over deliver on my end, as anyone I've written for will tell you.

This makes it a much more appealing proposition for

Makes perfect sense, Dennis. Have you ever been approached to be a writing partner? For instance, every month you write X amount of content for X dollars?

We're so quick to outsource critical elements, and then complain about the quality.

          Thanks!

I already was doing some SEO work for one of his web-design clients. I needed to contact him to get the FTP info. You'll find that most web designers don't no jack about marketing. Finding a way to make more money from their existing clients is a real no-brainer for them.

Yes Bill, I have worked several times as a writing
partner, and have yet to be disappointed in the
outcome. I currently have one arrangement in which
I provide ongoing content by simply writing two articles
every day in the same niche.

This is a super easy way to make a small change in the
way you do business that can be quite profitable, or
even allow you to trade for another monthly service.

You can definitely consider me a big fan of the
barter system, and the arrangement of paid monthly
              content.

    Bill, Hi!

I believe that's what is so great about WF. If you really need something, you can usually get it if you ask and aren't trying to scam someone. I know I've helped several people with a product they needed ( gratis ) and I'm sure If I needed something they had, all I would have to do Is ask. Hope this helps! Great to hear about the article possibility Tina. Thanks!

    Hey Bill,

Yeah, it's done quite a bit here. I know I barter all the time because like you mentioned, there are things that I do well, and things others do well. I know I work with a couple of groups on specific projects, but I also work on private projects like a service where I may have to look on the outside of my network. Bartering comes in handy for both parties.

    It pays to work together.

    Hi Bill:

You bring up a great and overlooked way for mutual benefit.

I am always willing to barter if it is advantageous for both people and honest and ethical!

Could we set up a Barter Section in the forum?

    Thanks for a great idea!

      MMurtha,
I'm hittin' what you're pitchin'. But what really got me thinking about this--and Tina actually hit on this a little earlier in the thread--has to do a bit more with what a lime green newbie could offer in the way of service (and let me be clear, I am not fishing here on my behalf).

So many people hit this forum with the dream of $10k a month; that idea is being barked at them, and there are those who believe that to be an inevitable truth...if they just follow some blueprint they either purchased or were given through a list building strategy.

But I keep thinking that many of those newbies, what they likely need is just a little more money...to make ends meet, to take up the slack from spouse's hours getting cut, etc...Hell, we're in a recession, you know what I mean.

So is there an internet marketing-related service that newbies could offer within the forum (or another niche)? Something that could bring in a little money every month, get them acclimated to the online way of things, strengthen a skill set?

Or am I just being naive?

      Thanks!
      Bill

Once I bartered sales copy for a website design. I must say, it worked out pretty well. It happened during my early stages as a copywriter when I was looking for more projects to gain experience. I must say, the guy did a great job on my website.

I've also worked out some deals with Warrior friends of mine. For instance, I remember helping another writer get through a few articles in exchange for PLR on niche I needed.

You should know, the best way for bartering to work is to establish relationships first. I will say that it may be hard for a new member to find people willing to barter with you because it takes a while to establish credibility and trust. So, keep posting and meeting new people and the perfect opportunity will soon rise.

    Bill,

Well this thread was a good start.

Try posting in the JV forum, and your sig is also
a great place to put a short blurb about being
    open to service exchange.

There are many graphics artists here on the WF.
If any one of them in particular has work you like,
contact them through their site and just ask.

Going by your OP, I can only assume you wish to
trade your copy writing service for in exchange for
    graphics.

You may well find some graphics artists interested in the
    JV forum.

I've traded articles for minisites in the past, so I see no
reason why you can't do the same with web copy.

    Hope this helps,
    Dennis

The only issue would be determining what a fair rate of exchange would be.

Some offer services at $300/yr and others charge $10/hr for the same service.

Nice, Instructor. You bring up another good point. If you're an unproven writer, for example, charging $15 per 500-word article seems a little steep.
