Is the Money in the 'List'?

So i'm into the 2nd week of my 90 day challenge and i've just been hit by an 'AH HA' moment!

I've gone through 5 years of case studies, old ebooks, web favorites and even spoken to internet GURU Chris Rempel and everyone including my notes say:

"The money is in the List.."

is this the very first thing i should be doing (after choosing a niche/interest)?

Absolutely not. Putting in place the ways and means to build your list is the very first thing you should be doing, period.

There's a lot behind it then just jumping in. Once you've found you're niche, you should sign up to several top marketers list. See how they market to their list and look for patterns. If you can reverse engineer things then even better.

There's no point building a list if that's all you intend to do. Ideally you want to have a strong sales funnel put in place and email your list on a regular basis. Do some research and see if you can find peoples complaints about being on email lists (this won't apply to everyone) but it's worth looking into so you don't fall into anything similar.

You need to continuously build a relationship with that list whilst you keep building it until you can see potential of Action Takers and responsive members.

Once you find your niche, you should start a blog and build a list. This way, you have two ways to generate income -- not just one. The cool thing about building a list with a blog is that a number of people who find their way to your blog via search will automatically sign up to your list without you having to do much of anything -- aside from providing value, which you should be doing, anyway.

If anyone has the audacity to state within the public domain that the "money is in the list", particularly within the very place they source subscribers, then they have no respect for their list nor their business.

If they elaborated on the seemingly cool and cute one liner perhaps it would be more logical and in turn lack the disrespect it exuberates.

It's the equivalent of owning a store and dancing around people telling them they are a source of cash. Business does not work this way.

A vendor should only announce they they are a source of value.

Yes - you are right in saying it is a one liner but no one is announcing this to customers. This is about discovery, what matters, what you should be doing if you what to build something sustainable.

What i have been told is to give VALUE to the list but essentially what i think the one liner is referring to is that without "a list" you have no sustainable business.
