The main benefit solo ads have over PPC is that solo ads should be warm leads. The email is coming from someone the subscriber trusts, and is seen as an endorsement for your offer. PPC leads are just cold traffic that caught someone's eye while looking for an offer similar to yours.

That is how it is supposed to work. However, not all solo ad providers lists are built the same.

solo ads are to a list of people that have already subscribed to a product similar to yours. So they most likely subscribe to yours too.. You can`t be so sure on PPC traffic

Also, PPC requires you to know where to find decent ad networks, keywords, SEO, etc.

Solo Ads get rid of all that hard work for you.

However, most solo ads are for the Make Money Online/Internet Marketing niche, so I would still recommend PPC for other niches.

Also, with solo ads, you don't have to worry about keywords, quality score, manual review, editorial review, landing page copy, squeeze pages, user attributes, daily budgets, keyword bids, total characters, having your account banned...

You still have to make sure the list is quality, your swipe copy is quality, you are testing landing pages, etc.

But you don't have to worry about all of the other things. It is more "wide open" so long as your offer is a good fit for the list.

This is for the IM/MMO niche. I am going to be testing a totally different traffic source in the coming weeks for a different niche.
