How hands on are you?

Obligatory first post introduction:
I've been lurking for a while, and watched a video the other day where a guy said "If you don't build your dreams, someone else will hire you to build theirs" which inspired me to make the jump for a War Room membership and engage in the community.

I am curious how hands on everyone is? I've been designing and developing, marketing and freelancing for over 15 years. There are so many stages in this industry from, planning to designing, marketing, selling etc... How much is everyone doing themselves and how much do you outsource?

  • I outsource only what I'm not good at.

However, I strive to be as hands-on as I can. Why? Because I want control on as many aspects of my business as I can - and I know I can do better than anyone else since I know my PRODUCT more than anyone else.

However, I do know I lack in some aspects where I do need help. However, I do try to learn how to do it first... It's only after I screw it up royally a couple of times to I try to outsource it on a work-for-hire basis. I never do partnerships or percentage/royalty payments.

Outsource what you can't do yourself, or if you could do it yourself but its very time consuming. I rather spend most of my time focusing on building the marketing-aspect of the business like lists and relationships.

I only outsource things like design and graphics, and things that are too technical for me.

For everything else though, I do myself, including creating my own eBooks and courses.

I never outsource content writing - I enjoy creating my own content and there is something satisfying seeing your own creations being read and bought online.

I do everything myself on all my sites. The only time I hire someone, or don't work myself, is when I'm on vacation. Which I already have outsourcer's, VA's, etc on hand to call on for such an occasion.

Before anyone ask, I found my people on oDesk and Elance. I don't user vWorkers, use to be Rent-A-Coder because the level of professionalism and knowledge is a little lacking there. Just my opinion.
