Need help setting up a newly bought site..

I recently bought a new site from a seller who transferred the domain to my a/c and mailed me the related files for hosting.
I need help in setting up that site. I am not sure where to transfer those files to set up the site and make it working.
The seller is asking for extra money to transfer the contents.

The file list is mentioned below, along with 1 sql file. Please help.

Folders -

cgi-bin
wp-admin
wp-content
wp-includes

files -

.htaccess
fantastico_fileslist.txt
wp-activate.php
wp-app.php
etc

put all these files on public_html.

if that doesn't work, check if there is a wordpress installation already or anything that resembles those files, in the public_html folder and outside of that.

so this site is totally brand new? you might need to install a new WP installation if simply transferring the files don't do the trick but try to copy them first and see if that works.

upload the sql file using cpanel.>restore sql backups, you might need to tinker with user accounts but see if that works out first.

    vdovaulthack,

You will need to use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software to move the data across and into the public_html sub-directory as Bri777 mentioned.

In order to do that you will need FTP software which you can download free off the internet. Just search for 'free ftp download'.

Then you will need the username and password for both your cpanel and ftp software. That you have to get from the guy you got the site from.

If the guy is not asking too much then get him to do it, otherwise do a search in the Warriors for Hire section and find someone who will charge you a reasonable price to help you.

I believe you have everything you need to make the site. Assuming you have standard cpanel hosting and the domain names are the same, the way I would approach it would be as follows:

    1. Install Wordpress on your hosting
    2. Once installed and working, replace the directories with the ones you have been sent. Alternatively, rename the directories created in the install to something like wp-content-old, cgi-bin-old and so on.
    3. You now need to create a blank msql database with an associated username and password.
    4. Import the sql database you were sent into the blank database you created.
    5. Edit the wp-config.php file and replace the database details with the blank one you have created.

It's about 10 minutes work assuming you have cpanel hosting.

      Hi,

As it's a WordPress web site, then there is a simpler, virtually tech-free solution ...

First create a new WordPress file by using Fantastico on the Cpanel of your hosting account.

Then use a cloning program like WPTwin - this is a paid for program, but very useful for cloning and backups and works like a charm. However, there are free programs available, but I cannot say from personal experience if they are as good, as I've always been happy with WPTwin.

Then it's a simple matter of putting a file on the seller's existing web site and pulling out a complete copy of the entire web site intact, which you can then put on your new installation.

      Warmest regards,

      Paul
