Inexpensive Video Editing software?

Ok I didn't find an "endless thread" on this. I know this probably gets asked alot. I have a toshiba computer from yesteryear, (about 2008)...its still kicking so I'm still using it. I want to be able to do some simple video editing...adding captions, etc....something a tad bit better than the windows movie maker which is crap to me. I just got a new Sony Cybershot HD. I had an old thread asking about free editing software but I don't want to come off as too cheap. I can budget maybe 50 bucks if it's worth it. I was suggested in an old thread to get the Lite version of Sony Vegas. I don't need much capability but windows movie maker is a bit lame. I'd like to be able to have a template or something with my logo(s) on the screen at all time, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Download a free trial of cyberlink powerdirector.

    PowerDirector 11 Deluxe | CyberLink

Then if it works on your system, get it for about $50 ish.

I know what I'm talking about, and it's a quality piece of software to start out with.

You can upgrade as you go.

You had mentioned: "I have a toshiba computer from yesteryear, (about 2008)...its still kicking so I'm still using it."

That's why I threw in the "if it works" comment. (referring to your computers processing speed and other hardware etc, as some of these video programs have specific minimum requirements as you may know. Therefore don't commit until you try them and are able to create some videos without your system crashing etc.

Oh. Haha...yea I googled it a little bit. I'll have to check out all of the requirements that's for sure. Thanks though.

I use Sony Vegas Pro for most video editing tasks, but to be honest with you, the "lite" version is really good too, and has pretty much every feature that (most) people will ever need. In my opinion, it's better than anything else in that price range.

You can download a free trial to see if you like it...

Sony Creative Software - Download: Movie Studio

Another option is the free version of Active Presenter. It's more for "screen capture" type stuff, but it can be used for basic video editing too...

Adobe Premiere Elements 11, I believe you can pick it up for around $70, plus it will get you prepared with the work environment if you ever go deeper/pro into video editing and require Premiere or After Effects

If you want really, really cheap (ie, free) and don't mind that it's not industry standard, you can always use:

    Lightworks

If you want to play with linux, you can use:

    The Open Movie Editor

Personally, though, I'd stick with Adobe, and get Premier Elements.

The time saved by using Adobe products, which have countless resources available online, will far outweigh the initial investment of $70 or whatever it is for Premiere Elements.

Avidemux works fine and Windows too. But the Vista itself consumes a lot of resources, so switching to Xubuntu is very good and user friendly solution
