Suggest software for video editing

I need to blur some parts in some tutorial videos but it seems this is not as easy as I thought.

Can you suggest software that can do some video postprocessing, at a reasonable price? I don't need anything fancy, I don't need to blur or distort a moving object (such as a face) but a simple static one.

Thanks for any suggestions!

You could use something like Sony Vegas. I am pretty sure they have a 30 day trial or also Camtasia will do that.

Camtasia has a blur callout. Simply drag it over the area you want to blur out. Then extend it on the timeline for the duration of time the scene you want to blur is on the screen.

I tried Sony Vegas but I am not sure if it can do this. Any software I tried (Pinnacle Studio 12, Adobe Premiere Elements 7, Corel VideoStudio) can easily manipulate the video on video frame basis - I mean, you can easily apply effects etc on a whole video frame but I need something that will allow me to select a rectangle-like area on the video and click something like "Blur" button and that rectangle will be blurred for as long as I define.

Perhaps some of the video editing software I tried can do this and I admit I didn't have much time to play with them for long enough but it didn't seem as something simple at best as I couldn't find any direct tool for this.

I used CamStudio for this particular video and I suppose it has some blur function similar to what has been mentioned for Camtasia but that has to be applied when you actually make the video.

But I'd much prefer something that will allow me to edit the video after it has been created so for example some users would see the blurred version and some the non-blurred one.

Camtasia lets you blur after shooting. Just use a callout (Click on Callouts and select Blur from the drop-down menu).

Sorry, it doesn't. I believe they introduced the blur tool in Cam 4 (now up to ver 6).

I dont know to much about vegas or camtasia, since I use Final Cut Pro, but in my program, there is an option for a garbage matte. You can layer the clip on top of itself, then add a matte to the top clip. Then you can blur the matte. The matte can be manipulated to be any size you want it to be. I am sure these other programs offer something like that. I know this doesn't really help, but maybe it will point you in the right direction.

Have you checked out CamStudio? It's wayyyy cheaper than Camtasia and has all the features.

Vegas can do just about everything you'll need for internet
marketing videos. The price of the versatility is the learning
curve. It's not hard to learn, but it does do a lot so you need
to learn how some of the tools work to get the effect you
want. Camtasia is considerably less versatile - though it
makes certain things quick and easy.

Actually, CamStudio is not "way cheaper", it's completely free. The real deal is at CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software . I guess some unscrupulous pseudo-marketers are trying to sell software that's normally free, not to mention they are breaking the license as CamStudio is licensed under the GPL license I believe.

Either this or it's a different product sharing the same name which I doubt though.

I did use CamStudio (the 100% free and legal version) to create the short videos.

Camtasia is not video editing software. Its video capturing software. For video editing software I use Sony Vegas Pro 8.0. Adobe Premiere Pro is supposed to be very good too, but is supposedly harder to use and learn than Sony Vegas Pro.

If you're on a Mac iMovie does a real good job for basic stuff.

So I'm assuming you can't do blurring with CamStudio then? If someone knows how I'd love to know...
