I need to get more subscribers to my mailing list!

So here's the thing, some of you may remember me from posting back a few months ago and I took all your advice to heart and the site is working out quite well. However, no sales or very few signups. Maybe 18 total? To me, I feel like I can do a lot better.

Is it possible I ask how or what am I doing wrong with the signups page here? Free Giveaway | Quality Rare Coins

All opinions and advice appreciated.

A couple of things - where is your traffic coming from?

What are you conversion rates? You say 18 people have signed up...is that 18/18? or 18/10,000?

The verify email box is probably a deterrent. "You wan't me to write my email twice?!"

Personally I'd rather know my chances of winning, when the drawing occurs, etc - in "bulletted" format as opposed to the paragraph up top. I can see the prizes below...you can describe them there.

Make your text boxes a little more obvious that they need to be filled out. They kind of just blend in with your site.

Those are some of my thoughts.

Traffic is coming from ads and google. About 20 - 30 people check out the site a day, at least 15 are unique. Very few who see the free giveaway page are enticed to join it. I'll try those tips out, thank you.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8005456].message }}
  • You may need more traffic, your conversion rate might be low. You should test alternative layouts and colors. Compare the difference and optimize, then keep testing. Your ads may need some copy writing work, maybe people are expecting to see something different when they arrive.

Make your squeeze page flashier, with headlines that pop out (take a look at any WSO sales page) and that create urgency. Maybe try disabling the sidebar on that page so there is only 1 optin form instead of 2 on the same page.

You need a better headline. Fix the opt-in form so that people can actually see where to type their name at. Condense the page to make it look more like a squeeze page, and offer them something fill of value for free.

The best way to get someone to do something (like sign up for your e-mail list) is to give something away for free. Free products, coupon codes, helpful tips, whatever. Even the simplest things are enough to get someone to sign up when they otherwise wouldn't. Good luck!

To those who say offer things for free, aren't I already? Did you have a chance to look at the giveaway page? 3 items of value are there.

Give something of value to each person that signs up. Right now, the three items of value are only for the winners of the giveaway.

Make a guide to collecting or investing in coins and give that away. It doesn't have to be are large guide, just some basic information to get someone interested going in the right direction.

Your site looks better than it did before but it's still not great.

Your headline text needs improving. You're asking for email twice, that'll lower conversions. If this is supposed to be a squeeze page then there's too much going on. Maybe just my PC but strange black lines keep appearing on your opt in box obscuring the email and name fields.

This is just my opinion but maybe add some text on your button, possibly make it red? The one part that got my attention was the "win free silver!!" that was in red. I'm thinking maybe switch the button to red and add some text, and take away the email verification, maybe see what that does?

I also wanted to click away when I saw the optin box was directly in the middle, no idea why, that's just what I was feeling...good luck, I'm sure it will turn out great!

I doubt most of them even looked at your page. I'll wager that some of them didn't even read the whole post.

The first thing I saw was "Who wants some free stuff?" I read a little farther, and I find out that the free stuff is a newsletter (yawn). Maybe give an example or two of the results of your deals, and why getting them early is a benefit.

You're running a contet with three prizes that sound valuable (this isn't my area), and yet you only have 18 people signed up? Of course anyone who belongs to your message board is also eligible.

Don't tell people you only have 18 entries, and "only two more to go" sounds desperate. It creates some credibility problems for you.

Speaking of credibility, why should I enter my email - twice - into an anonymous contest, and why would I want a newsletter from someone with no credentials. If you have a credential or track record, remind people you have it. Don't expect them to dig through the rest of the site to find it.

If you are looking for subscribers, you need to get your subscriber for out front. When arriving at the domain, I had to wade through a lot of stuff before finding the signup form. It appears that your first aim is to get sales, not signups.

Even though sales is the ultimate goal, the potential buyer has to trust you first. So an immediate purchase is (I would think) unlikely. So you must get them on your mailing list to increase the probability of return visits. Hence, I would place the form in an easy position on practically every page of my site.

I also suggest further defining the "free silver" being offered. I am finding that signups are more skittish than ever. The more complete my disclosure of what my "bribe" is, the better my signups. So I like the apparent value but think your response may be better with "Win a Free Silver Coin" for example, than "Win Free Silver." That's just my guess, nothing scientific here.

    Hope this helps.

definitely needs a redesign. if it's a money site, i think green should be apart of it. the subscriber box, i always like seeing left or right, not centered. there's no social sharing on it. it looks very dull. i mean i know the demograpgic for coins isn't 12-25 year olds but it should still be appealing. how's your bounce rate? it seems like it wld be high.

bounce rate = 49% but it does go up pretty high because i have a lot of "robots' hitting the site.

You of all people ACTUALLY have something of REAL VALUE that you're giving away.

But the optin page looks desperately scammy, like you're shoving that optin down my throat !

If I were you, I'd hit up fiverr and order 2 or 3 gigs to create a landing page for you. Great graphics
and the help of someone who knows how to put it's all together will help you drastically!

You've got a great looking offer, it's just needs presented properly.

You have some great advice here. I would also add, as a visual person and a lover of antiquities, you need more images of the coins themselves. My favorite part of your front page there was when I scrolled down and saw the coins. I would suggest showing an image of what people can get for free. So to summarize, more coin images, lose the "verify email," and consider showing an image of the "free silver" the visitor can get by subscribing. Best of luck!

I popped over and for the first 5 or so seconds I was absolutely clueless what it was about.

...I then made a conscious effort to see what your site was about (Something that your visitors will NEVER do).

One thing you're missing is a big "in your face" headline to tell people what the site is about and how it will help them out.

You see, the first few seconds are absolutely crucial. If you can't tell the visitor what your site is about and how it will benefit them within the first few seconds of visiting... They'll leave.

    Hope it helps buddy

  • One thing I noticed right away was the size of font you used on your copy to the left margin opposite to the photos of silver rounds and US silver quarter. I had to squint to try and read what you were describing in the rules of your site. Hope that helps some. Good luck.

What is the rate of your website traffic? If it is low, there is no doubt that signups are few. In this case, promote your blogs is the most important things. However, if it is high, things are different. I visited your website just now and found that visitors can only sign up at the home page. I suggest you to create some tiny buttons on other pages. This makes visitors signing up your web more convenience. Anyway, content is still the king, the more professional the content is, the more subscribes you will have.

Which page are most of your visitors landing on? There is no sign-up box on the home page, at least not that I could see. All the giveaways in the world won't help if your visitors can't see them!

You need a much jazzier and punchier site design. A visitor landing on your home page would find it hard to know what your site is about without either reading the text or scrolling down.

I can tell you two things from experience with working with computer students:

    a) people don't scroll. Period. Most will never see your photos of coins.

    b) you need some kind of picture or logo that tells people immediately what your site is about. People shop with their eyes. They won't stop to read the text unless you have grabbed their attention and made them want to read.

i would make your page a lot more basic and just have 1 call to action or one end goal in mind

you have far too many links and distractions and this is why people probably go off somewhere else

a basic squeeze page still works great for building your list

I agree with the fact that giveaways and helding contested on your blog is a great way to attract more readers, on the other hand this fact cannot be igonered that readers want interesting, infomartive, new techniques etc to know. So, publishing content that gives some value to reader would be great. Try to publish fresh content atleast 3 times a week this way you will have more subscribers.

Giveaway will only encompass freebies freebies mailing list and the conversion is very small so it's better not to build a list via a giveaway.
More you use solo ads or sell the product as it will capture that koversinya buyer list will be much greater.

They are normally free to enter

I agree with what everyone has said here. It will cost a little money but if you can write a good quality solo ad you'll get targeted solo offers to your page. Also, you definitely should contact the solo ad venders and ask them questions like if your offer would fit their newsletter and things like that if you decide to take this route. Show them your URL. Most of them are willing to contact you and let you know, they do want your money after all, :d

I haven't read all of the replies, but heres the most obvious issue.

Your optin should be on every page - site wide.

I would ditch the competition and do up an indepth manual that lists all of the coins and their current values. So collectors can identify coins they might have, and know what they're worth.

Better still, why not do up a series of short videos covering buying, selling, caring for and valuing coins? Make it a free training series spread out over 6 weeks or something?

The simple message is - make them an offer that they cannot ignore/refuse.
