How to estimate the value of a domain

I have some domains in my portfolio that I'm not really using, and thinking about selling. 4 character dot coms, and single word names. none of them are obviously super premium (i dont own cool.com or anything like that), but I think they have value, if only because there are a limited number of possible domains of this type.

Any tips on evaluating their worth, or best way to sell?

You can sell them on godaddy.com auctions or flippa.com too. I would go with flippa.com if you have some really desirable names.

    Sunil,
To put it bluntly domains are worth what a buyer will pay for them. Obviously the more people fighting to get the domain is good news for you in getter a better price.

Think of a reserve and put them up in either Flippa or Godaddy marketplace and see what the market values them at. Honestly I've had better success with Godaddy auctions, Flippa generally seems to be successful for some BIG time names, not sure exactly where yours stand. You should report back post-sale!

Estibot.com is a great resource for finding domain values.

As been said abve, the value is only as much as buyer wants to give for it. The only way you can know the value of a domain is to list it somewhere, preferably flippa and see if it gets some bids.

Using an automated tool is useless, because if you don't find a buyer your domain is pretty much worthless.

Yea, I agree tools arent very useful in this case. What would be useful would be past domain sales records, because I could look up how much similarly obscure 4 letter or single word domains have recently sold for.

I figured that the forum owners might consider it an ad, and. Not appreciate it.

That aside, I think I would sell them in an auction, rather than akin the first offer someone makes me.

I'm seeing a lot of x and z, which are non-premium letters. That said, a search on Namebio for 4L .coms that have sold in the last few months reveals a few with "kk" and "x"s that sold for $1200+. There might have been a specific reason someone wanted those. But most of the sales are on GoDaddy are in the $150-200 range.

To be realistic (and this is just my opinion, price at your own risk) for a quick sale to another reseller, you could be looking at anywhere in the $100-400 range. If one happens to be an acronym or if there's an end user out there who needs it really badly, you might reach the $500-$1500. But most high 4L sales are reserved for names with premium letters, patterns (CVCV, CVVC, etc.), or that spell out a word.

I have a question about selling domains on flippa... what if I have a domain I want to sell so I put it up for auction to see what people are willing to bid on it... however I don't get any high enough bids that I think my site is worth? Can I pull the domain or do I HAVE to sell it to the highest bidder? Kinda confused on how that works so if someone could enlighten me on the subject I'd appreciate it!

Much like eBay, you can set a "RESERVE" price for Domain Auctions which is the lowest price at which you're willing to sell and if the Bidding does not reach your "RESERVE" you do not have to part with it.

There is no rule of thumb for domain estimation. You can post is to flippa or sedo or similar sites but real price will be what a customer like to pay you.

If the names contain any keywords, you can do a search on Namebio or DNSaleprice to find out past sale prices for domains including those terms.

Putting them on Sedo is a great way to evaluate traffic and interest, if any - it allows you to see how many people visit per day and where they're coming from. 95% of my sales come from Sedo. However, don't be surprised if you get little to no traffic - there are millions of domains listed and people really have to be searching for your keywords for them to pop up. Brandables are much harder to sell.

If you want to sell them quickly, price them on GoDaddy or Sedo and mark them as "Buy It Now." If you think any are of higher value, you can simply wait around for offers to come in.

I just joined WF to seek advice about some sites I'd like to develop, but I'm pretty well-connected in the domain community and can give you an honest gut-reaction about your names if you're interested. (the person who stated that appraisals are at best an estimate, was spot on, because ultimately it depends on who's buying, and how badly they want the name).

Hi, go to any forum websites. Try to put them on craiglist or on your local classifieds advertiser. For now, the best way would be here though.

Honestly, I don't think we can preempt the price of the domain. Listing it on Flippa and see if gets a lot of bids is the only way to know I believe.

Since you don't own cool, sex, or money.com, you domains value will be what someone
    is willing to pay.

Suggestion, build a simple two pages website for each one explaining what they could
be used for. After they are indexed, you'll get better money than selling a raw domain.

You have an empty lot. At least, put a tent to stay overnight...

create a page and explain why these 4 letter domains are important. Someone will Eventually buy these as a pack not in a single quantity.
