Weird characters show up when sharing my url on facebook

10 replies
Hey guys,

Does anyone know how to fix this issue:

When someone goes to send a message on facebook or shares my website url on their timeline, the title of the url has weird characters.

Basically Facebook substitutes "quotes" or an 'apostrophe' with weird symbols such as 'm

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? If not, does anyone know where facebook pulls this info from? Do they pull it from my Facebook page or from my website which is a wordpess based website. If I can find out where they pull that info from, I can go and remove the quotes.

Thank you.

    Peter,

    They are probably adding in ascii characters:
    HTML Codes - Table of ascii characters and symbols

    So if you have a space in your url title or description, then it would automatically use the ascii value for a space which is & # 3 2 ;

    We would need to see a clearer indication of the problem if we are to help.

    Can you show us the exact link and what is being inserted.

        I don't think it's a virus because it doesn't show up on any other websites when posting to Facebook.

        Let me ask you guys a question in another way.

        When sharing a website on facebook by posting it to a timeline, where does facebook fetch the info from once you type in the url in the status update?
