Hey everyone, I'm running a forum now, and have a question about moderating backlinks. We're using vBulletin, and in the CPanel, there's a section to moderate the backlinks.

Generally speaking, we don't allow links pointing to competing sites...that being said, what should I look out for in general? I'd like to go through and manually validate a few of them, and also do a bit of research on the site itself.

That is very labor intensive. If I were you I'd make sure all outbound links are NOFOLLOW and ANONYMIZE them. This destroys the incentive for spammy backlinkers BUT people postng GENUINE resource links wouldn't care.

Thanks mate, where do I go and manually make them nofollow (I use vBulletin)?

You can also ban certain words, so just make sure your ban list has the basic URLs to those sites. For example of the site is called Iambetter.com, then in the ban list write iambetter.com and even if they put more with it, it wont' appear. then you don't have to do it manually. (I use different forum but i am sure you can ban words on vbulletin too).
