I was sitting thinking when I was looking for guest post opportunities, about the amount of actual blogs out there that are just informational blogs.

I have ambitions of starting a few blogs myself in different niches. What I don't understand is most of these blogs just have articles on them numbered in the thousands but what I don't see is how they are making any money.

Are most of these blogs just hobbyists writing about what they love, or is there some secret money making stream that I am missing.

Although I would love to write about topics in niches that I love, we all want to make money also.

I guess I'm trying to understand how these people do it before I delve in myself.

Opinions?

Thanks,
Aaron.

In the Warrior Forum, yes, we all want to make money from our business sites.

But "marketing" isn't the primary purpose/function of the web.

Millions of people have websites of countless different kinds with absolutely no commercial intent at all. (Some of them do use a little bit of AdSense or something similar, too, just in an attempt to cover their registration/hosting cost - I don't really call that "commercial intent", for most people, most of the time).

I even have some, myself (not with AdSense, though :p ).

Many of the blogs to which I get my articles syndicated have absolutely no commercial intent at all, and sometimes that's part of their value to me. Some of them still have really high traffic.

    I'm "just saying".

Most people who have a blog are probably not into marketing so No they don't make any money as that is not why they are blogging for in the first place.
A savvy Blogger who is trying to make money will have affiliate links and banners subtlety placed throughout the content of their blog which will earn them some commissions. ie Make money

I hope I understood your question

Hello Aaron. Not sure if I got your question right, but if you are asking how to make money from blogging, here's what I can say about it - In my opinion, you can make money from blogging, if you have a website where you are offering products/services, because blogs can drive traffic, which will increase your web visits (the more visits you get, the more chances of sales right?).

The secret here is to place unique and information rich content regularly. The more you are consistent in doing it, the more active your blog will be. Your reputation will also increase, because people engaging with your blog activities will be confident that you are an expert in your niche (that's if your content is rich with valuable information). Not to mention, you can use your blogs to generate leads for your business (this is again a chance to increase your sales).

If you are not running any business online, you can use your blog for affiliate programs, build lists to sell, etc..etc..

There are actually so many ways to earn some cash from blogging; I can go on with my list, but the ones I mentioned are enough to give you the idea.

    Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I like the idea of having a blog on the side of a website selling products.

Looks like I will be using my interests with affiliate products and build lists through quality content and free information on a blog.

Any more suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

    Aaron.

      Hi Aaron,

I would have to agree a bit with what Simmeon said, it's definitely helpful to have an interest in the topic of your blog for two reasons.

      1. It will make generating content easier for you and it will most likely make it cheaper since you will be generating the content yourself rather than outsourcing.
      2. You will actually enjoy what you are doing and serve true value to your users which, in my opinion, shows in the website that you build. And when you build the trust rapport with your users, it will also show in your revenues.

Related to what I mentioned above, the most important thing for blogs is your content and by actively engaging yourself in that topic by keeping up to date through other blogs and information websites, you will not only be happy doing your research but you're chances of succeeding will definitely increase.

      Best of luck!

If you want to make money don't start a blog unless you have a real interest in the topic. Money from blogging come when you become an authority.

Before expecting a blog to make money on your behalf, you must build a number of traffic for your site. Which can take a lot of time and effort. Some people give up after a week, some after a month. But if you continue your hard work, your effort will be paid for sure.

Thanks again for the helpful advice, lots of helpful advice also.

I have a few hobbies that I can write plenty about, hobbies that I'm passionate about so that is a start.

As has been said, sticking at it and not quitting after a short period is key.

Anyone any advice on what I should concentrate on first?
Obviously get the blog set up first, but what plan of attack is best to get me off to a good start?

    Aaron.

You are going to need a decent theme that you should modify.
Also set yourself a goal of commenting on 10 blogs in your niche per day.

    Good luck.

Choosing themes are my down side it takes me ages to decide on one and modifying isn't my strong point lol.

Thanks for the tip on commenting on relevant blogs also will keep that in mind.
