Building Your Own Blog Network - Still Viable?

Couple questions.

I wanted to check on the viability of building my own blog network. I had a client who fell through (actually went to jail, probably a good thing they fell through) and I've already purchased aged domains in a variety of niches, but still centralized around business and marketing as well as lots of quality content for the sites. We were going to be building up some quality blogs together and now I don't necessarily have time to invest in the aspects he was planning on so I'm wondering, could I turn these into a small blog network for linking some of my own site?

I'm wondering if I take all the necessary precautions (get different hosting on different providers, use different themes, different permalink structure, private information and so on) is it worth the risk? I've already got the content and domains purchased and could put the hosting on month to month so if it gets deindexed then so be it?

Thoughts?

    If you already have the content/domains/etc and you're "fine" with paying for a few hosting accounts - and you have a way to monetize - then I think it's worth it.

    Money in > Money out -> if you can't do that, then maybe sell the content/domains.

      Yeah well I considered that but I figured why not spend a bit more on hosting and see if I can get some bigger returns versus spending my time trying to haggle domains and content off - I'm going to be building the sites either way, so as long as they don't get deindexed they'll be assets I can sell as a whole, I'd just be putting them up on different hosting vs putting them all on 1.

      May of answered my own questions? I am primarily apprehensive if I'm missing something as far as security to minimize my footprint with the blog network? Also do others have linking strategies for amount of articles/links pointing to other sites? Obviously I'll be keeping it to a minimum but should it be 1 good piece of content for 1 site?

    There is no "risk" really.. If Google stumbles to you, they'll just deindex your network. No one is going to show up on your doorstep and punch you in the face or anything.

    That being said... it's not worth it, regardless of the risk because it's not going to work the way you want. Why not focus on a legit business instead?

    Private blog networks are essential for controlling your own destiny in SEO in my opinion. they are used by the biggest and the best, so why not you? Just keep it quiet and make sure you are doing it correctly. Some people have networks that just completely explode whatever they put on to rank for, its pretty sick.
