Its being too "perfect" Wanting to write the "perfect" article perfect webpage, website ect.. I have read posts in here that say just take action stick to a plan and do it ect... I have put stuff out on the net but I feel that it doesn't provide enough value. Being too perfect is what is keeping me from actually taking action. I know I know "Just do it" I just don't wanna be putting out "crap". Anyone else having this problem?

Striving for perfection can paralize you. If you are really that unsure of your output get someone to proofread it.

But to be honest I wouldn't bother. You are taking action which many people never do. Hard work and focused action will bring you success

Yes, i think we all have this problem from time to time. It's kind of like writing a novel. If you keep on criticizing your own work and put off production because you don't like what you're doing... you'll never get it done. Just DO IT, get it out there and see how people respond. Or you can even release a "beta" or "Test" sample of what you're doing to get people's feedback.

just keep plugging away, keep you head up and things will find a way of working out.

This is a problem for many people. it was especially hard for me to get over this problem at first. I honestly think that when i experienced my first little bit of success and positive feedback, I wanted more so bad that my next bit of content evolved much quicker, and turned out ok. as time goes on, i am less and less likely to be such a perfectionist anymore.

i realize that i sometimes spell things wrong, or state a fact that may be incorrect, but even still, I get tons of emails from people thanking me for what i provide, so the little things dont seem to matter as much. Mike Litman has a quote that I try to keep in mind...

"You don't have to get it right, you just have to get it goin"

If you look at some of the most successfull companies in the world, you will see that they they also use this "rule".

Take microsoft for example... If they would have waited to release windows until it was "perfect" we wouldnt be using windows today. They finished a version that was 70% ok, or "marketplace ready" and from there they have been updating it.

Thats why software programs have updates, and marketers launch the "2,0" version of their products, and so forth... "you dont have to get it right, you just have to get it going"

    Hope this helps someone.

There is a big difference between excellence and perfection. Strive for excellence. No article or website is EVER perfect. And to be "perfectly" honest, it just has to be "good enough". . . I tend to have my articles written at about an 8th grade level. . . They really don't have to be "perfect".

    What is perfection?

To me. something is perfect if it exactly answers the requirement of the moment - so, a glass of water is perfect if I am thirsty.

If I want to know about the pigmentation of red paint, perfection would be an article that precisely defined the pigmentation in red paint in general. An article defining the pigmentation of red water paint would be too precise to be perfect.

If I wanted information of how karaya might benefit me, an article listing all the benefits of karaya would be perfect but if I only wanted to know the anaesthetic effects of karaya, that same article would be too comprehensive to be perfect.

Perfection is subjective and your perfection is only relevant to you and your personality - trying to impose your perfection on somebody else would be counter productive.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more

Happens to me sometimes. Being hard on yourself to achieve perfection can be counter-productive. I agree with artwebster, perfection is matter of perspective.

Niksanyl, I like the way you put it.

Artwebster, thanks for the good sharing.

Gabe, "perfection is a matter of perspective"....

"Beauty (or imperfections) is in the eye of the beholder"....
What I gather is that value to the reader is what makes a piece of work/effort worth it to an end user. Perhaps we should use the term "relevancy" instead of "perfection"?
