Aweber follow-up message going straight to spam

Hi guys,

i am having trouble with Aweber, the follow-up email i am trying to set up just goes straight to the spam folder, even after a confirmed opt-in from the visitor.

The spam assassin score is 0.2, (they recommend anything less than 5.0 to avoid being classed as spam/junk)

So i have no idea why it keeps going to spam, i have looked online and cant find anything to help. I have tried adding more content to the email but still it goes straight to spam.

Would appreciate any help,
Thanks,
Diice

  • Most of our previous emails via Aweber ended up in spam folders as well. (We are no longer with them). Either way, in order to actually receive a valid reason, you would have to dissect the headline and content of your email, and also figure out which email providers are putting your valuable message in peoples spam folder. Gmail, hotmail, aol, yahoo are notorious for this.

      Hi Diice,

By any chance are you linking to a domain inside of your follow-up email?

Beside the spam assassin score, there are many other ranking factors of how your email could be considered spam. I would say spam assassin is the MINIMUM requirement and may not convey the spam value..

Every major ISP has their own ranking scores which could be a cause (Aol, Gmail etc..)

You may need to look into more "comprehensive" spam testing services out their to value your emails.

      Hope this helps!

I'm mostly using 1shoppingcart, but occasionally, these emails too go straight to spam too. Even my own emails sometimes go into my very own spam folder. Sheesh.

However, it was REALLY bad when I tried to use a gmail address, so I stopped that. There's a long explanation for that, but I don't think it's needed here. Just don't use a gmail, aol, etc. "from" address.

I understand that Aweber doesn't even allow gmail etc., so that is probably not the problem. But do check what email address you're sending these emails from. That too could be part of the problem.

        Good luck!

Aweber has been doing the same for me. I know this because I had a friend with another AR do the same mailing for me and the rates were way better. They have been notorious for this.

One possible question (to anyone concerned) is: at what stage and how many times and how clearly and in what form(s) do you explain to your subscribers that this is always a possible problem, and advise them what they need to do about it, to make sure that they always receive your emails in their in-boxes? "Just asking".

Very important this. Making it very clear to them multiple times and even going as far as telling them how to do it can work wonders especially in a non techy niche who isn't that clued up when it comes to computers / internet.

Sometimes I receive email messages from Aweber saying that I have new subscribers, which go to the spam folder.

Other times I see messages with the Lens of the Day – sent by Squidoo, going to the spam folder, while they should arrive to my regular email box. I have removed many messages that are not spam but go to the spam folder I don't know why and sent them to the daily messages file, but this keeps happening.

I always check the spam folder to see if there is a valid message there.

I even had the impression that the spam folder was simply a trash can, and sometimes some messages accidentally go there. However, this is a serious problem.

I don't know what is making so many messages that should arrive to my regular email box go to the spam folder if I didn’t mark them as spam and they are not sent by spammers. These messages sometimes arrive to my email box normally.

Therefore, who knows what is going on with the email messages and the spam filters? You are not the only one who is having this problem.

There are so many reasons why this could be happening.

    1. Make sure your spam assassin score is at ZERO. I don't care what Aweber says. Anything at all that is likely to trigger your email as spam should not be there so that means your spam score should be ZERO. I will never send an email without a ZERO score.

    2. The links inside your message can trigger your emails as spam. Certain services don't like emails that contain certain links so you may want to test a different link by setting up some kind of redirect.

    3. The 'from name' can even trigger yr email spam. I have had emails in the past that were being sent straight to spam yet the moment I changed the 'from name' to something without my product name inside it, the emails started getting through.

So they are just a few things for you to test.

I couldnt agree more, this is a huge problem, particularly for local businesses looking to build a list of customers. Their completely legitimate informational emails could get marked as spam. Hardly any of these subscribers are going to bother let alone know how to mark the sender as safe, hence risking not receiving all the emails. You would have thought that with a confirmed opt-in it would automatically recognise the sender as safe.

Some great ideas Will, i am going to test them out now, particualrly the redirect as i feel the link i am using could be setting something off. I will also try my best to reduce that SA score to 0!

Thanks for the ideas and input guys,

Anyone using any of the big autoresponders lately having serious issues getting ANY mail (at all, period, on any subject, with or without links, etc) to AOL users?

I've had Aweber respond to hard bounces (from this AOL issue) by unsubscribing over 3000 of my opt ins in the last couple weeks. About a quarter of my list is suddenly ....not on my list.

I've spoken with Aweber multiple times about this and have trouble getting any kind of consistent (or remotely pleasing) answer. Any insight or advice guys?
