Can you be called a Web Designer? If you don't design?

Hi,

I'm new to Internet Marketing and my favorite niches is making a Website especially for Offline customers and sometimes online too, my local customers here in UAE.

Quick questions, I'm not a Web Designer but I make a website using Premium and Free Templates for Joomla and WordPress, so how would my customer call me?

I'm average user of both Joomla and Wordpress but I'm not making my own templates. I took it from developer templates clubs where I'm currently a Lifetime member.

The answer will help me focus on what keywords I need to choose without giving false information to my customers.

#called #design #designer #web
  • On the internet, you can call yourself anything you wish. Most people do. "Guru" "Expert" ....
oh, and here's a funny one... "Internet Marketer".

Don't be afraid of calling yourself a web designer. Web designer = designer of the website structure as well.

You will be ok. I used to be a web programmer, but they called me webdesigner anyway.

Although you can call yourself anything you want, it's unethical to call yourself a web designer when all you're doing is using templates created by others. Why not learn how to design websites so you can do things properly and really be called a web designer?

This is exactly the reason I don't want to be called Web Designer because I'm not designing any website

Well, it take time and you need to be in a good detail for any designing projects..a bit too long for a learning curve to study Design details it's not my type for this field, but I love providing website to a local businesses.

Thanks for others who made a suggestions, now I change my signature to a Website Provider, and alternately use Website Maker too for my Sales and Squeeze Pages soon.

I will still continue making offline website from the Developer Templates Club whom I have a Lifetime Membership already, that was a quite investment too.

The labels "designer" and "developer" are a bit over used IMO. I'd find a unique, self-proclaimed label for yourself that no one can take issue with or dispute. In my agency, I'm referred to as "Senior Geek" or sometimes "Geek-a-holic" and we also have a "Graphic Goddess" on staff..... you get the point. Who cares about labels? make it fun and do what you love. Best of luck!

Glad that you had your own thing running!

Well a web-designer is someone who designs a websites… while someone who sells those designs or templates are what we call the middle man. Plan and simple. But in your case, you might want to call yourself Web Specialist. I think that fits you right.

Even if you use Paid or Free themes to create website for your clients, you still be a web designer.

I believe you won't just grab the themes and add client's contents in it. You still need to customize, do some CSS stuffs to make sure that it fit the client need.

It no matter to call yourself a Web Designer, and also it's not unethical because you doesn't produce the code, but you customize/design it to fit your client projects.

I always find the label, WEB-DEVELOPER works well.

    Like a property Developer,

But Instead of creating dream homes for people.

You are creating dream sites for business's!

When ever someone asks me what I do I always say I am a Web-Developer, because that covers a whole load of things.

I agree with George b. I would prefer the word web developer. Most of the designers and developers have an overlap work, I don't know if people noticed it. Anyway, I love them both... Coz when the work are combined they are both create a sweet website!!!

If you know about wordpress themes and joomla then you are considered as a web designer. Even though it is very simple, still you were considered as a web designer but not that advance.

Technically speaking, a designer designs and a web developer knows how to code/program websites. You are doing neither. I think something generic like web services is better.

Thanks Thats why my domain and Online Business Name fits it well, I Label them: Dubai Web Service and domain is dubaiwebservice.com

But I want to target Good Keyword so they will find me and get my services, but dubai web service keywords is having a very low searches.... this where my concerns goes in.. I don't know any ways to drive traffic to my own site online.. thats why I do it offline business marketing.

Technically, what you are doing is part of the design process, rather, you're still sculpting the information architecture in most if not all cases... Think of it this way, an interior designer might not sew all of the curtains and paint all the walls, but they bring all those elements together to make the room look complete and have visual flow. Though the term can be loosely applied, I wouldn't forego referring to yourself as a web designer, as that's the more common term for those outside the industry.

I DO design web sites and code them. But honestly I have more skills for coding and programimg than talent to design. Anyway I call myself webdesigner, because I have done some sites from scratch from the <!DOCTYPE> to the </html> tags.

But, some people know the differences between a programmer and a graphic designer. I would call web developer myself, as I take care of the design (outsourced), programming and installation and I am still learning everyday, with up to date e-courses for programming and Adobe graphic edition softwares, and I have been doing it from past 4 years.

Since the services you offer are more familiar to people with the term website design, then it's okay to call yourself a website designer. You don't have to search for a more appropriate label for you. If you say web maker, this might confuse some people. Use the label web designer so people will directly know what you can offer them.

I think web services is the best. But it depends on who your market is. If they relate more with web designer or web developer use it... just use what will sell your services
