Question about split testing sales pages

I'm working on my sales page now with input from the copywriting people, it looks like it needs a MAJOR overhaul.

People always say split test to find out what works and go with that. But what if you're in the development phase? You're not going to get a ton of sales to get a true gathering of what works and what doesn't. so how can you test a sales page before you get sales? Can you check if people are at least reading a certain variant of a sales page versus a different one?

Any advice would help.

    First of all...

Marketing and copy that sells is totally dependent upon the traffic you're driving.

The advice you received in the copywriting forum is spot on; you need a USP BEFORE you'll ever truly make massive sales.

    But more than that...

You need to refine/define/redefine your brand.

You have some unique perspectives that will really resonate with people - if you're able to make your messages come through more clearly.

    And yes...

Men and women relate to fitness, health, weight loss and lean muscle building in very different ways.

Trying to appeal to both of them (men & women) in one page is just too broad and you will consistently fail to reach anyone - until you create an umbrella brand, with two distinct USP's.

    That being said...

    To answer your question...

You don't rely on sales to determine the development process.

    What you need to do is plain as day: Once you execute these major revisions and create a truly distinct brand - with a powerful marketing message that separates you from the incessant noise in your niche;

Drive relevant traffic and see how your target demos relate with your marketing. Reach out to other business owners in your niche and see if you can list trade... or buy solo ads.

But you're in the starting over phase right now. Be there. Don't worry about testing - until you really have something that broadcasts the transparent power of what you're offering - in a way nobody else currently is.

What do you suggest I do? Do I have 1 main landing page that then gives the user to select the male or female version specific sales page?

Or do I just have 2 separate ones and drive gender specific traffic to the individual sales page?

        Okay...

Let me back up a second.

There are brands that transcend gender. P90X is certainly a solid example of how branding can reach men and women equally.

And your philosophy definitely has massive cross appeal.

So I'd spend your time really defining your brand.

        That being said...

The emotions behind why men and women want perfect bodies can dramatically vary. The Truth About Abs is an obvious example of how to execute the presentation: Click here. (Not an affiliate link.)

        Again...

Start with your brand. You'll be able to infuse it into both pages, while coming up with unique USP's for each gender specific page.

    Another thought:

The cornerstone of your brand is about healing the metabolism.

You did a good job explaining how eating more consistently helps heal the metabolism and prevents the body from storing fat (or going into survival mode.)

But I'd go further in bringing this process to life - including giving a real visual understanding of what the metabolism is and how calories are needed to keep the fire burning strong.

It's awesome to offer up this kind of information on your main landing page. But once you get prospects onto their gender specific page, you have to dive into WHY having a work-horse metabolism is so important.

You're not appealing to people's egos and desires nearly enough - if at all.

You can also really stand out and explain how our bodies age at an accelerated rate when the metabolism's fire burns too low.

We're also prone to getting sick (or manifesting dis-ease) when the body stores too much fat.

You definitely have the knowledge; you just need to more audaciously trigger the emotions that compel massive action.
