Why is marketing so hard?

Hey guys,
marketing has been always very hard for me.

I know, there is SEO, PR (Articles), Social Media, Newsletters, Videos, Blogs and so on for marketing.
But the problem is, I am using them all and getting no results.

I am putting a few hours every in it, and the results are stunning bad.
So I thought, you guys might help me.

My question is:

Do you know an easier way for marketing or to get some good amount of traffic to a site/product?

Thanks very much.

EDIT: I know, there are "easy" ways of marketing: Just putting an Adwords campaign with 200$ a day, but I am searching for easy ways which are free or very cheap.

I think you've actually answered your own question, at least to some extent, right at the end of your post - this is perhaps what's continually stacking the deck so firmly against you, anyway ...

Internet marketing isn't easy. The overall success-rates, whoever's figures you believe, are clearly not very high. It requires skills, experience, judgment, discipline, attention, concentration, education and the investment of either time or money (or both). "Easy ways which are free or very cheap" are statistically very unlikely to cut it. Sorry, but you did ask.

That may be another problem. Your chances might be much higher using one thing than using many, because your attention and concentration will be more focused, and because the learning curve and skill-set development are usually slightly easier and smoother, that way.

Thank you very much, but how should I get "an accountable mentor" ?

And for Alexa Smith, youre right! I have to focus on one thing and concentrate me more on this only one.

But I dont really know how to do it, I mean, I am already doing everything as well as possible, should I just publish like 5 articles instead of 2?

    Thanks

I think probably not ... because it's kind of a quantitative approach, and article marketing isn't about how many articles you have: it's about who reads them (i.e. where you get them published in front of the already-targeted traffic you want to try to attract).

For this reason, "writing more articles" is very rarely the answer to anything. "Writing better articles" can be; so can "getting them published in better places". The things that make the income-determining difference tend to be qualitative, rather than quantitative.

Actually that is a tough question to answer. Different people teach different things..you know the things that brought THEM the most success. So if you want to venture in (Insert Interest Here)...then you find the guy/gal that has excelled in that specific area.

      Hope that helps.

Ye but there should be another solution for that, I mean, Facebook, Twitter, Paypal, Ebay, Pinterest and so on got big in like 6 months.

There are free and low cost platforms to create your own dating site or social network out there if that really interest you.

Just think what you can offer that no one else is or how you can put a new twist on something.

That is one great thing about being an internet marketer how fast we can adapt and get a product to market.

I do totally agree with you, you need to have a product people want.

But the thing with the cold money is not true for every startup. Facebook for example didnt spent any money on marketing.
Dropbox neither as far a I know.

So, it would be cool to know, how they got so big, without focussing on marketing.
I know it has to do with virality, but the question is how they got even to that point when it goes viral.

Digital Marketing is hard and to sustain a profitbale marketing is even more harder because Marketing demands webmasters to have changes in their marketing strategies at all time,,,
the main reasons to have changes in marketing is because buyers demands changes all time, Rivals changes their strategies and new technologies becomes available

Facebook when it started and Facebook as you see it today are not the same animal. Facebook started as a kind of college yearbook on one campus and grew from word of mouth.

Dropbox gives away millions of free accounts, hoping to upgrade some of them. They may not have bought a lot of flashy ads, but they invested a ton into infrastructure to support the freebies. Then they pretty much turned every freebie account into an affiliate by offering upgrades in return for referrals.

I'm not sure where you got your history, but none of those went from startup to what they are today in six months.

The secret is simple. Find something people want, do it well enough that those people want to tell other people, and then give them incentives to do exactly that.

The secret is simple, but execution may not be easy or fast and certainly not free or cheap...

Its hard to help unless we know exactly what your site is and what market your going after.

If you know your market audience then SEO, press releases and all that jazz isn't always needed.

So unless we know the site your trying to grow a user base with its hard to help.

Marketing is a way of showcasing your brand...Brand awareness holds to those who buy later! doing this on the internet is no different.... Go there and have fun... develop a character for your fan (mentally) and play off that vibe to think out of the box and display who you are, what you do, or what makes you unique. (without advertising aka buy here or order NOW!) If what you want is quick results... then Spend money- Advertise..!

    Some food for thought -

Do you have a product people actually want or are you slogging your guts out trying to sell something you don't believe in? This is by far and away the biggest hurdle most people fall at. Not only is it hard to sell something in these conditions, it's damn hard to pick yourself up when stuff goes wrong (and it will, no matter how good you are!).

Are you tracking your numbers on everything? Of course you're not, everyone talks about it and no on ever does it. If you're not keeping score, you're just practicing. Track everything and focus on making the RIGHT numbers go up. Publishing "5 articles a day instead of 2" is useless if the 2 articles aren't producing any traffic. 2.5 x nothing is still nothing.

Are you focused? I mean really focused? Course not, you're doing some of this and some of that. We've all been there, don't worry Pick a method, any method and focus on getting REALLY good at that one thing. Don't worry that guru X says that method is dead. Don't worry that guru Y says the only method that's working in 2016 is babel farts. Just pick something you're already doing a little bit of and do a lot of it, get really good.

Are you asking specific questions? The quality of replies will go up the more specific and detailed your question. Right now "I'm stuck, what do I do" will yield responses like this. I hope it helps but it's not going to move you forward and unstick you, unless you have a mindset change. But when you're focusing on one specific thing you can find someone that's already good at it and ask a few specific questions about the bits you don't get. The result will be orders of magnitude more useful to you.

    Good luck!

This is really good, it should be a sticky here!

Tracking and staying focussed are my two biggest shortcomings at the moment.

I have lots of ideas, too many in fact, and I tend to jump between them doing a little bit here and a little bit there without really achieving anything.

Do you buy competitor backlink data from the likes of MajesticSEO / SEOProfiler / SEOMoz / AHRefs?

Manage it with Backlinks Explorer to help you get more backlinks more quickly.

      Hi

This is a nigh on a prefect response which was followed up by further clarity. Focus on 1 or 2 strategies that you enjoy and perfect them.

I have just unstuck myself and am making good progress. A consistant approach will bear fruit.

      Choose from:

      1. Forums
      2. Blogging
      3. PPC
      4. Solo Ads
      5. Social Media
      6. Facebook ads
      7. Article Marketing
      8. Banner advertising
      9. E-mail Marketing
      10. Ezine advertising
      11. Offline - classifieds, radio, business cards, flyers, stickers and promotion by T-shirts and a rubber stamp!...stamp everything with your url...letters, money etc....think how many hands those go through.

      Have fun

      All the best

My advice: Start from scratch again.

Marketing is tough. Marketing is actually a bitch if you don`t know how to attack it.

Before you even consider a method, you have to ask your self:

Do I have the patience and the required time to succeed in marketing?
If you really want to succeed,it takes work ethics. You have to make a gameplan. Set yourself daily goals and complete them no matter what. Put in the required hours. Like any other plan (in general life),consistensy is the key to success. You have to change your mentality. Work hard, deliever quality and the commisions will come eventially.

    And to your question:

There is a lot of ways to generate traffic.

One of the easiest ways is to become an "expert" in a niche and join a niche related forum with a lot of traffic. But this method takes work.

In order to become an authority person in the forum you picked(and make your readers click your link like crazy in the signature box) you have to make a plan:
-Make at least ten helpful posts pr day.
-Once in a while:Start a new thread and post a "how to" guide or something
-If you have a youtubechannel with quality and helpful videos you can once in a while post them to answer a question.

    You can also create videos.
Do your keywordresearch and do onpage-seo and off-page seo. I normally buy giggs from fiverr for the off-page seo. Also buy likes, views, comments and subscribers as this is a huge ranking factor.

    Hope this was helpful

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I wrote an article a few years back about people who suffer from Internet marketing insanity.

You are better off to find one form of traffic generation you enjoy and spend most of your time mastering it. You will become an expert on what is working and you can then do more it.

Once you have that going then add another one. You really only need 1-2 working strategies to get enough quality traffic to make a website profitable.

Marketing is very hard because there is a fierce competition online in all fields. You have to do many things to promote your links, and nothing seems to be enough.

All free methods are time consuming and depend on effort and patience.

You can find a list of free traffic generating methods if you will click on Search at the top right side of this forum and type in the keywords ‘website traffic’. Many Warriors have made this question here numerous times.

The problem is that you don't have time to promote your business using all these methods. You should choose the methods that you are able to understand and implement.

Dude, you need to focus on 1 or 2 strategies first and master them. Do not try to go all over the place trying to master all techniques. If you want to go on free marketing, go for it. If you want to go for paid traffic, go for it. If you want to market trough social media, go for it. Maybe you just really need to focus.

Probably the hardest part of marketing is overcoming all of the noise and distraction in the marketplace. People's time is extremely limited and you only get about 5 seconds to convey what you have to offer. If you don't hook them then, you won't be able to give your full pitch. I would go back and focus on your hook and refine that. The rest will trickle down and a better hook means more interested people get to hear your whole message.

What exactly are you selling as your success heavily depends on what you are selling, the market size, competitiveness and how much effort it takes to convince the end user.

I also feels Internet has started to getting saturated, business verticals have become overcrowded with many players and everyone doing the same thing. Online marketing is certainly not going to get easier (in terms of ROI) as more and more people doing same thing which others are doing selling same things which others are selling.

Still, you can look to focus on personal branding, focus on building a community around you and your product, this will take time but will work out better in long run.
